Ames (or Paul) Cemetery is located in the northwest portion of Section 12 in Waterford Township on Highway 9, southwest of Dickson Mounds Museum.
Astoria Cemetery - located in the northeast quarter of Section 26 of Astoria Township. Follow Route 24 in a westerly direction until it reaches Astoria. Once in the town of Astoria, turn left on S. Pearl Street (Hwy 12). Keep going in a southerly direction until you see the large Astoria cemetery on the right-hand side of the road
Babbitt Cemetery (established in 1878) is located in Union Township in Section 4. Go north on Route 41 out of Avon and turn right on Smokey Road. The cemetery is on the right-hand side of the road.
Banner (Utica) Cemetery - located in the northwest corner of Section 11 of Banner Township. Follow Route 24/Route 9 in a westerly direction until it splits into two different directions. At this junction, turn right on Creek Road and the cemetery is about 150 feet down the road on your right.
Barker Cemetery is located in Section 18 of Farmers Township. If you are going in a westerly direction on Route 95, go past Marietta and take the first left turn as you leave the town. This should be Route 34. Keep going south on Route 34 as it winds through the countryside. You will see the cemetery on the right where Route 37 (1550N) intersects with Route 34.
Barnes Cemetery is located in Lee Township in the southeast corner of Section 32. Take Route 9 out of Canton, going west. Drive past Fiatt and Blyton until you reach Route 15. Turn left on Route 15. Go south on this road, past Checkrow. The road will curve to the west. Soon after turning westward, you will see the cemetery on your right. There are a few stones that are broken and I believe that there are a few stones that are missing as well.
Baughman Cemetery is located in Section 21 of Cass Township. If you are going in a westerly direction on Route 95, before you reach Smithfield, look for the cemetery sign. Turn right at the sign onto Brock Chapel Road(850E). You will see the cemetery on the right-hand side of the road.
Breeds Cemetery was originally located in Section 31 of Orion Township. It was then later moved to the Orendorff Cemetery which is located in Section 32 of the same township. Follow Route 9 (2450N), going towards Canton. Turn left on Cemetery Road (2500E) and follow it until you see the cemetery on your left. Breeds Cemetery is situated at the back of the Orendorff Cemetery.
Buckeye Cemetery is located in Section 5 of Cass Township. If you are going in a westerly direction on Route 9 out of Canton, go past Fiatt until you reach Highway 2. Turn left on Highway 2 and continue south until you see Buckeye church on the right. The cemetery is behind the church.
Bybee Cemetery is located in the northwest quarter of Section 16 in Banner Township . Follow Route 24 southwest, past Banner. Then turn right on McKinley Road (2150N). Follow it until you reach Brown Road (2600E). The cemetery will be on your left.
Chapin Pleasant Hill Cemetery is located in Farmington Township in Section 9. It is on 3400N, off of County Highway 24. The cemetery was established on April 4, 1854, and incorporated on January 22, 1922.
Coal Creek Lutheran Cemetery is located in Fairview Township (Sec. 19) on Coal Church Road (3350N)
Connor-Bishop Cemetery is located in Section 34 of Putman Township. As you are going southwest on Route 100, go past the village of Bryant, until you see the road on your right called Oscar Linn (1800N). Turn right here and follow it for quite a distance until you see Connor Road (1555E) on your right. Turn right here and follow this road through its several twists and turns. Eventually you will see the cemetery on your right, set back from the road.
Cuba Cemetery is located in Section 20 of Putman Township. Once you reach Cuba, either by Route 97, Route 95/97 or Route 5, you will find the cemetery on Locust Lane Street.
Dobbins Cemetery is located in Vermont Township in the northwest quarter of Section 1. Go west on Route 136 past Ipava about 1.5 miles. Then you'll see Dobbins Road (1150N) on the right. Follow it as it winds to the north. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
Easley Cemetery is located in Section 27 of Vermont Township. If you are going west on Route 136, go past Ipava and turn left on Highway 12. Follow this road as it winds around and continue past the railroad tracks. You are looking for the second road on your right once you pass the railroad tracks....Easley Road. When this road turns to the left (Kepple Rd.), you will see the cemetery right beside the road on your left.The well-kept Fairview cemetery is located in Fairview Township in Section 33. If you are going west on County Highway 17 through Fairview, turn right on West Road. You will see it at the end of the road.
Foster (Shumaker) Cemetery is located in Fairview Township (Section 26) on County Highway 24. If you are heading west, it's on the way to Fairview.
Fouts-Mellert Cemetery - cemetery book states: it is located in the SW corner of the N1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 12. It disappeared many years ago. The area is being farmed and has been strip-mined. And no probing has been done at the site. Oscar Linn road off high way 78/100 go to county road 6 turn right should be on that first farm on left hand side. There's nothing indicated as being buried there.
Freeman Cemetery is located in Section 6 of Isabel Township. The road that takes you to the cemetery is called Mile Load Road off of Route 136. When coming from Lewistown or up from Astoria on Route 24, you turn onto Route 136, west at Duncan Mills junction...and the very first road on Route 136 you come to on the right side of the road, you will turn right. Go down it about 2 miles and Freeman cemetery will be there. There is a sign. The Cemetery overlooks the Spoon River Valley and Duncan Mills area. [directions submitted by Jan May]
Gardner-Ash Cemetery is located in Section 25 of Joshua Township. Go west on Route 9, leaving Canton. It is on the left-hand side of the road; you can't miss it!
Greenwood Cemetery is located on South Main Street in Canton and covers over one hundred acres.
Guernsey Cemetery is located in Lee Township (southwest quarter of Section 16) on the right-hand side of Route 9 going in a westerly direction, close to Manley. It's up on a hill over-looking Route 9. As you can tell by the picture below (taken in the early spring of 2004), this cemetery has been abandoned.
Highbridge Cemetery is located in the northwest corner of Section 23 in Buckheart Township. Take Route 78 north until you reach the village of Dunfermline; the cemetery is right off the road on your right.
Hill Farm Cemetery is located in Farmington Township in Section 27. If you are going south on 2200E, it is past Gilchrist Road near 3100N.
Hyatt-Thompson-Putman Cemetery is located in the southeast portion of Section 2 in Putman Township. If you are traveling on Highway 5 in a southwesterly direction out of Canton, watch for the Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club sign. Turn right there on Wee-Ma-Tuk Road (1700E). Follow this road straight north until it turns into a dirt road. You are now on Hyatt Cemetery Road. Follow this road until you see the cemetery on your left.
Johnson Cemetery is located in Canton Township on the north side of Canton. It is off Route 78 on Cypress Road. This cemetery is in a bad state of neglect; there are several stones are that unreadable.
Lacey Cemetery is located on the southern edge of Section 4 in Pleasant Township. Follow Route 136 in a westerly direction until you are about 1 1/2 miles east of Ipava. You will see the cemetery right off the right-hand side of the road.
Lamb Cemetery is located in Section 4 of Deerfield Township. If you are going west on County Highway 17 towards Ellisville, you can see the cemetery in the winter-time...from the road. The cemetery is located on private property, back behind a barn in the cow pasture. The cemetery has been very neglected but an iron fence still surrounds it.
Locust Lane Cemetery is located in Joshua Township on County Highway 19. Locust Lane United Methodist Church is in front of the cemetery, pictured below.
Lyons Cemetery is located in Fairview Township in Section 8. If you are going south on Route 97, turn right on Lyons Road (3450N). The cemetery is at the intersection of Lyons Road and Swegle Road (1350E)
Maryville (or Marysville) Cemetery is located in the northeast part of Section 31 in Buckheart Township. Take Route 100 until you reach the village of Bryant; the cemetery is right off of Main Street, next to the Bryant United Methodist Church that was established in 1868.
Montgomery Cemetery is located in the northwest quarter of Section 4 in Pleasant Township. Go west on County Highway 136 towards Ipava. Before you reach Ipava, turn right on Tater Creek Road (800E) and go north for awhile until you see the cemetery on the right-hand side of the road.
Morning Star Cemetery, located in Section 31 of Kerton Township, is off Morningstar Road which can be reached either off Route 100 or Route 24. On Route 24, the road is between Summum and Astoria. On Route 100, it is near the Marbletown area and Anderson Lake. The cemetery lies behind some trees and a cornfield but there is a sign by the road and a little area where you can drive back into it. Norris Cemetery is located in Canton Township near the town of Norris on Route 78 and Owens Road (3000N).
Oak Hill Cemetery is located in Lewistown on Main Street
Oak Ridge Cemetery is located in the community of Farmington. It has two entrances, one on Wall Street and the other entrance on Fairview Street, pictured below. Oak Ridge Cemetery was established in 1835 and deeded to the city on April 17, 1868. The Fairview entrance was presented by C. C. Butler in 1917.
Orendorff Cemetery is located in Section 32 of the Orion township. Follow Route 9 (2450N), going towards Canton. Turn left on Cemetery Road (2500E) and follow it until you see the cemetery on your left.
Pollitt Cemetery is located in Liverpool Township in the southeast quarter of Section 1. If you are going in a southwesterly direction on Route 24 (past Rice Lake), turn right on Pollitt Road (2350E). You'll see the cemetery on your left in the middle of an old strip-mining area. There aren't many stones left and a few of the stones are unreadable.
Providence Chapel Cemetery is located in Farmington Township in Section 19, off of County Highway 24 on 1800E.
Randall Cemetery is located in Section 18 of Bernadotte Township. If you take County Highway 14 (Bernadotte-Lewistown blacktop), going west out of Lewistown, drive towards Bernadotte. You should see the cemetery on the left-hand side of of the road on a hill. This cemetery is also known as Jordan or Pickering.
Red School Cemetery is located in Section 22 of Orion Township. If you are going south on County Highway 27, turn on Orion School Road (2750E). The cemetery is at the corner of Orion School Road and Bankert Lane.
Salem (Cholera) Cemetery is located in the southeastern part of Section 33 of Buckheart Township. Follow Route 78 in a southerly direction past Canton until you reach Oscar Linn Rd. Turn right on Oscar Linn and continue on this road until you see a pond on the right-hand side. There's a grey gate and a fence that's runs in a northerly direction. Follow the fence (on foot) for about 1/4 mile.
Salem-Wilcoxen Cemetery is located in the southwestern part of Section 5 in Liverpool Township. Follow Route 78 in a southerly direction past Canton until you reach County Highway 4. Turn right on this road and continue for quite awhile until you pass an intersection. Go down the hill and when you come back up the next hill, look for the second house on the right which has a damaged cemetery sign on the east side of the house.
Saunders-Blackaby Cemetery is located in the northeast portion of Section 23 in Putman Township. Travel Highway 5 in a southwesterly direction until you see Gale Road (1565E). Turn left on Gale and follow it as it winds around. You'll eventually see the cemetery on your left a few yards from the road. Many heartfelt thanks to the person who takes such good care of this cemetery!
Shield's Chapel Cemetery is located in Buckheart Township in Section 7. Travel on County Highway 5 until you reach Shield's Chapel Road (1900E); turn left.
Sixteen Cemetery is located in Section 9 of Woodland Township. Take the road going south on Route 24 from Lewistown...go through Summum on Route 24 and at the very first road after Summum, you turn left. That is Isaak Walton road, I think. I know you go down the very first road after Summum to reach the cemetery. The road goes down about a mile where there will be a fork in the road. Turn right and it's just around the curve up on a small hill by a farm. There is a sign. [directions submitted by Jan May]
Stites Cemetery is located in Section 19 of Bernadotte Township. Take the main road into Bernadotte by the restaurant. Then there will be a fire house; turn left on the road in front of it -- Holler Road. Turn right on the first road after that left turn. Follow this road up the hill and you will see the cemetery on the left-hand side of the road. This cemetery is also known as Bernadotte-Locust Grove
St. Joseph's Cemetery is located in Canton on South Main Street right next to the Greenwood Cemetery.
St. Mary's Cemetery (one of two cemeteries by the same name in Fulton County) is located just east of Lewistown. Find Halsey Avenue in Lewistown and go east. This road will turn into Catholic Cemetery Road. The cemetery is on the right where Fiber Optic Road intersects with Catholic Cemetery Road.
South Fulton Cemetery - located in the northeast quarter of Section 35 of Astoria Township. Follow Route 24 in a westerly direction until it reaches Astoria. Once in the town of Astoria, turn left on S. Pearl Street (Hwy 12). Go past the large Astoria cemetery. Keep going in a southerly direction until you see South Fulton cemetery on the right-hand side of the road.
Summum Cemetery is located in Section 4 of Woodland Township. Take Route 24 to Summum and turn left on the second street. Follow this street just outside of town. The cemetery will be right on the edge of town.
Virgil Cemetery is located in Union Township in the southeast quarter of Section 33 and crosses over to Section 4 of Lee Township. Go west on Route 17 past Ellisville until you reach Turtle Road (265N) and then turn right on a dirt road. You'll see it on your left. There's a wonderful old cemetery sign that was saved and is now situated on the right side of the cemetery
Walnut Cemetery is located in the southwest quarter of Section 15 of Banner Township. Follow Route 24 in a southwesterly direction, past Banner. It is a large cemetery situated on the side of a hill on the right-hand side of the road.
Waterford (or Sepo) Cemetery is located in Section 11 of Waterford Township. Turn onto Starling Rd. off of Highway 9. Then turn right on Waterford Road. You'll see the cemetery up on the hill on your left.
White Chapel Memory Gardens is located in Canton Township on Route 9 near Bradley Road, just on the eastern edge of Canton.
Wolf Cemetery is located in the northwest corner of Section 17 in Orion Township, northeast of Canton off of Route 78 on Cypress Road. Abandoned.
Woodland Cemetery is 1 1/2 miles east of Astoria on the northside of Hwy. 24.
Wright Cemetery is located in Section 1 of Lewistown Township, northeast of Lewistown. As you are going southwest on Route 100, go past the village of Bryant until you reach the first road on your left. Turn left on this road, Wright Road (1720E). The road will jog a little to the left and will eventually turn to the right. After you follow the right bend in the road, you will see the cemetery on your right.
