America's expansion westward brought pioneer farmerss seeking good , cheap land.

The Forest being so plentiful..gave the settler's plenty of wood for houses, furniture, supplies..
stripping the Forest of its Natural beauty and fertility.
In 1933 the federal government  aquired as much land as it could to preserve what was left.

The Shawnee Forest has 70 miles of scenic Byway and approx.
270,000 acres of Forest to explore!
Bird watching (lots of Eagles),
horseback riding, hunting, and fishing,
and of course hiking are just a few of the area's
recreations.
Among the sites to see:
Bell Smith Springs
Millstone Bluff
Garden of the gods
Cave in the Rock
and the National Historic Trail:
Cherokee Trail of Tears

All of this along side the beautiful Ohio River, just across
from the Kentucky border.
