America's expansion westward brought pioneer farmerss seeking good ,
cheap land.
The Forest being so plentiful..gave
the settler's plenty of wood for houses, furniture, supplies..
stripping the Forest of its Natural
beauty and fertility.
In 1933 the federal government
aquired as much land as it could to preserve what was left.
The
Shawnee Forest has 70 miles of scenic Byway and approx.
270,000 acres of Forest to explore!
Bird watching (lots of Eagles),
horseback riding, hunting, and
fishing,
and of course hiking are just a few
of the area's
recreations.

Bell Smith Springs
Millstone Bluff
Garden of the gods
Cave in the Rock
and the National Historic Trail:
Cherokee Trail of Tears
All of this along side the beautiful Ohio River, just across
from the Kentucky border.
