Eastburn

Eastburn is located off of US Highway 24 just wast of Sheldon towards Watseka in Iroquois County.

(I have not been able to find much information on this town so if anyone has any information I would be most appreciative of any contributions)

Eastburn U. B. Church

The first church meeting in Sheldon Township was held in 1834 at the log cabin of Jesse Eastburn near what later became known as Eastburn Station.

The Rev. Frederick Kenoyer, a circuit rider and missionary of the United Brethren faith, was welcomed to the log cabin home, and the hospitality fo Jesse Eastburn, a devout Quaker, encouraged him to come again and again to preach to the early settlers.

The small log cabin, however, was inadequate to accommodate those who caem to worship. In 1834 the Lister's Point School, later known as West Union, became the regular meeting place of the first United Brethren Church was built on land given by Jesse Eastburn. Services were held there for almost thirty years with the Eastburn Church sharing a minister with the Sheldon congregation. In 1925 the members of the Eastburn Church united with the Sheldon Church. In 1928 the building was dismantled and the land returned to the Eastburn estate. A marker placeed on the northwest corner of the junction of U.S. Highway 24 and the Shewami County Club Road marks the site of the Eastburn Church.
