CARBONDALE BOY WORKED IN SPARTA
Robert Wright, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd H. Wright of Rural Route 2, Carbondale, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday night while swimming in the Chester Municipal Pool.
He had been working in the Daniels Store in Sparta in the meat department. His parents are in Michigan on a vacation. He was living with an uncle, Charles Wright in Sparta.
The boy had left the store after work with two friends Ross Ragland and Donald Gentry, both of Sparta. They had been in the water only a short time when on a swim across the pool, he called out and sank beneath the surface.
Ragland dived to help his friend but could not locate him. Both boys dived until they were able to bring the young man to the surface. Attempts at artificial respiration, were in vain, said Coroner Lester Walker.
The body was taken to the Welge Funeral Home in Chester and the to the Walker Funeral Home in Sparta where arrangements are incomplete awaiting the arrival of the boy's parents.
Coroner Walker has set not date for the inquest.
Wright disappeared under water while swimming in the pool. When he was pulled out a minute later, he was dead.
A doctor who examined him said he was uncertain if the boy drowned or if something else caused his death.
Wright was a 1952 graduate of Carbondale Community High School.
