Brockville Christian Church Friendship Quilt
Jasper County, Illinois

Contributed by Michael Markwell whose says:

It was made by the congregation of Brockville Christian Church, of which my great-great-grandfather, Rev. William Martin MARKWELL was Elder throughout his ministry, from 1859 until his death from typhoid fever in 1876. As near as I have been able to determine, the church continued to meet for at least another century (I visited the church building in the 1960’s) but may have disbanded about 30 years ago. The names are handwritten in brown ink. To the best of my ability to read them, they are:

The Brockville Christian Church
Brockville Christian Church
was organized by Elder William Markwell in a school house, one-half mile east of Brockville, Ill on the third Sunday in September 1859, with eight charter members, as follows:

Jacob Coleman, Frank Collingham and wife, Charles Trowbridge and wife, Holland Brock and wife and Elizabeth Selby. After a time the school house became too small and a new log house 25x30 feet was erected at Brockville. This also proved inadequate, so a frame building 45x50 feet was erected.
