John L. Ferguson, farmer, P.O. Mount Vernon, was born in Sumner County, Tenn.,
June 23, 1844, and is a son of James E. and Anna (Ventress) Ferguson.
The father was born in this county, but when a small boy he went to Tennessee, where
he remained until 1851, when he again returned to this county, where he has since given
his attention to farming and the mercantile profession. He is at present engaged in business
in Mount Vernon. The mother was born in Tennessee and died there prior to her husband's
removal to this county. Our subject received his education principally in the schools of
this county, and has since that time given his attention to farming. He now owns 160 acres,
most of which is under cultivation. It is the same farm that was settled by Rev. Rhodam Allen.
Mr. Ferguson was married, March 29, 1869, to Miss Rose Moss, a daughter of Thomas L. Moss.
The result of this union was five children -- Lena, Charles, Minnie, Homer and Flora.
Mr. and Nrs. Ferguson are both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In Politics, he
is a Republican
