Respectfully returned to the Commission of Pensions.
Asa C. Axley, a Private of Company F, 44th Regiment Illinoise Volunteers,
was enrolled on the 1st day of July, 1861, at Ashley- for 3 years, and
is reported: on rolls of Co. to August 31st, 1863, present, Sept. &
Oct 1863, absent wounded at the battle of Chickamauga, Ga., Sept 20th 1863.
Co. was in action that place and date.
Final Statement and Record of Death and Interment show him: Died in
Hosp. at Chattanooga, Tenn Dec 21, 1863, from gun-shot wound of left ankle,
recieved in battle at Chickamauga, Ga., Sept 20th 1863.
(Asa Carter Axley is buried in the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Tennessee.)
