Thursday, October 13, 1864
 Hired as a substitute for Rainer Gilbert for 80 acres of land in PM.  Worker for Luther S. Place
in forenoon.

Fri 14th
 Started for Ashley at 3AM.  Took the cars for Olney.  At 7 AM got to Olney and took the cars for
Camp Butler Via St. Louis and Springfield.

Sat. Oct. 15
 Started for Springfield at 6 AM from St. Louis.  Got to Springfield at 2 PM.  Got to Camp Butler
at 5 PM.  Went into the bullpen.  I feel well.

Sun. Oct. 16
 In the bullpen all day.  Weather clear and pleasant and has been for the last week.  I feel
well today.

Mon. Oct. 17
 Weather clear and pleasant.  I feel well.

Tues. Oct. 18
 Clear pleasant and I feel well.  A lot of Jefferson County men come in to the bullpen this
evening.  We volunteered for the 32nd Reg. today.

Wed. Oct. 19
 Clowdy and gloomy today.  I feel well.  Paddled all day in the bullpen.

Thurs. Oct. 20
 Clowdy gloomy day.  I feel well.  We cleaned up the barracks today.

Fri. Oct. 21
 Clowdy gloomy day.  I feel well. Wrote to Sophia and sent her a five dollar bill in the letter today.

 Clear pleasant day.  I feel well.

Mon. Oct. 24
 Clear pleasant day.  I feel well.  Row amony the Rebgro and White soldiers at night.  Some killed
and wounded.  Heavy guard tonight.

Fri. Oct. 28, 1864
 Cloudy.  I feel well.  We left for the Dixie on the cars at 4PM.

Sat. Oct. 29
 Traveling on the cars in Ill. and Ind.  Clowdy foggy morning.

Sun. Oct. 30
 Left Indianapolis for Louisville at 12 AM.  Got to Louisville and went to Soldiers Home.
Clowdy foggy morning.  We left at dark for Nashville, Tenn. on the cars.  Wrote to Sohpia.

Tues. Nov. 1
 Got to Nashville at 4 PM.  Clowds up and sets in to rain at dark.

 Clowdy drisley days.  Left Nashville at dark (fri. Nov. 4) for Dixie.

Sa.t Nov. 5
 Clear pleasant day.  Warm traveling on the cars.  We got to Chattanooga in the night.  Left the
cars.

Sun. Nov. 6
 Chattanooga: went into camp.  Raining and no tents or cooking things.

Mon. Nov 7
 Rainy.  We was turned over to other officers.  We left camp at 12:00 in the night, and come into
the Station House in the night.

Thurs. 10th
 Clear pleasant day.  We went back to the camps again.  I wrote to Sophia and sent her 2 dollars
and R. Boxwell one on P. H. Place.

Fri. 11th
 Started for Atlanta at 3 AM on the cars.  Got to Kingston. Ga.

Sat. 12th
 We left Kingston at 1 PM.  Drawed guns and equipment at Kingston and marched to Carterville.

Sun. 13th
 Clear pleasant day.  Am well.  Started on the march at 8AM.  Camped at night.  Stood guard on the
cattle.

Mon. 14th
 Started marching at 4 AM.  Marched through Marietta on the Chatahoochee River.  Camped for
the night.

Tues. 15th
 Crossed the river and marched on to Atlanta.  Clowdy, appearance of rain.

Wed. 16th
 Rainy.  We left Atlanta at 9 AM.  Marched until dark.  Camped.  D. S. Gilbert very sick.  No doctor.

Thurs. 17th
 On the march all day.

Fri. 18th
 On the march all day.  D. S. Gilbert died today in the ambulance.

Sat., Sun., Mon., Tues.
 Marched all day.  Stood guard Mon. night around the ammunition wagon.  Very cold tonight.

Wed.23rd
 Started at 1 AM and marched until 4:30 PM.  The Army commenced foraging at Milligeville
today.

Thurs. 24
 We left Millegeville at sunrise and marched toward Savannah.  Started at 10 AM.  Stood guard all
day.  Bought two pairs of shoes.  Sold them for 6 collars.

Fri.
 I was detailed to forage today.  Some of our men was killed today foraging.

Sat.
 We marched to Samville and camped.

Sun.
 Marched from 2 PM til dark.

Mon.
 Marched at daylight - all day - camped on the river at 9 PM.

Tues. 29th
 Clear AM.  I feel well.  We laid still all day in camp.  Weather is warm so washed clothes.

Dec. 1, Thurs.
 We left camp at noon and marched until 10 PM.  I stood guard tonight.

Dec. 2
 Started at 8 AM and marched until 10 PM.

Dec. 3
 Marched from AM to 10 PM.  Camped with Hamlin, Flemins and Sless.

Sun. 4
 Marched all day.  Camped at 10 PM  Fighting heard.

Marched Monday from daylight until Sunset.  Also all day Tues., Wed., and Thurs.,

Thursday night--Nights Adventure.  (no explanation)

Fri. 9
 Clowdy.  Started at light.  Marched all day.  Skermashing today.  Camped 14 miles from Savana.

Sat. 10
 Clowdy.  I feel well.  We started at 9 AM and marched 4 miles.  Camped for the night.  It rained
in the night.

Sun. 11th
 I started at daylight.  It stopped rained at 7 AM.  I got into the 32nd Reg.  I fell well.  Went to
see the 31st Reg.  Cold night.

Mon. 12th
 Clear, cold, windy morning.  I fell well.  Put in Co. F of the 32nd Reg.  Il.. Vols.  We run the
blockade past the Rebels forts tonight at moonlight.

Tues. 13th
 Clear and pleasant.  Started in PM to go foraging.  Marched til dark and camped.

Wed. 14th
 Foraging all day.  Pleasant and I fell well.

Dec. 15th
 Returned to camp.  I got a pair of shoes.  The mail came in tonight.

Dec. 16th
 Warm pleasant day.  I wrote to Sophia.  We marched to the Ogeechee River and camped.

Dec. 17th - Sat.
 Clear & pleasant.  We laid still all day.

Sun. 18th
 I wrote to Sophia and sent her $10.00.  We had inspection of guns.

Mon. 19th
 Marched at 1 PM.  Marched until 6 AM and camped.

Tues. Dec. 20th,
 Laid still all day.  Worked in the breastworks until 12:00 AM.

Wed. 21st
 Moved into the forts of Savana today at 10:00 AM.  Turned cold tonight.

Thurs. 22nd.
 Cold windy day. Laid still all day.

Friday Dec. 23rd
 Clear & pleasant but cold.  Turns warmer at night.  Got a letter from I. F. Gilbert.

 Clear pleasant morning.  I feel well.  Company drill.  I killed a snake in camp today.

 Inspection of guns today.  Rainy at night.  I'm well.

 Rainy AM.  I washed clothes and drilled in Battalion drill in PM.

 Clowdy AM.  I went all over town and drilled.

Wed. 28th
 Rainy.  Marched to town for Review but no Review.  Come back.  It turned cold.  I wrote to I. F.
Gilbert.

 Had review today.

 Wrote to Sophia today.  I feel well.

 We moved back in the woods about 3 miles and camped.

 Laid still in camp.  Very cool wind and a rainy time.

 Cool damp day.

Jan. 12th
 Washed clothes.  Clear and pleasant.

Jan. 13th
 Wrote to Lucy M. Lockwood.  Started marching at 6 PM.  Camped at 10 PM.

Jan. 14th
 Started at daylight.  The 3rd Div. had a fight and took a fort.  Camped at dark.

Jan. 15th
 Howell come to us this AM.  Started at 8 AM.

Jan. 16th
 Reg. laid still I was on picket duty and we built breastworks in the rain.

Jan. 17th
 Laid still.

Jan. 18th
 General review today.  Company drill.

Jan. 19th
 Reg. built breastworks. Rained.

Jan. 20th
 Wrote to Sophia and sent her $2.00 bill.

Jan. 21st
 Worked on breastworks.

Jan. 22nd
 Rainy--stood picket.

 Moved camp today.

 I got 3 letters from Sophia, 1 from Lucy, and 1 from Wm. Palmer.  Wrote to Sophia.

 Clear pleasant day.  I am 36 years old today.  Marched at 8 AM.  Camped at 1 PM.  I feel well.

 Marched at 12 AM caped at night.  I'm well.

Feb. 4
 I feel sick.  Damp and rainy.  Skermishing all day.  We waded the swamp 1 3/4 miles wide and
3 feet deep.  Built breastworks until dark.

Feb. 5
 Clear and pleasant.  Started at 7 AM commenced foraging.  Well now.

Feb. 6 & 7th
 Rainy day and night.  Marched all day.

Feb. 8th
 We worked all day taring p the R. R. near Middletown.

Feb. 9-10-11
 Spitting snow and cold.  On the march.  I feel well.

Feb. 12th
 Waded the N. Edsto river and captured Orangeburg tonight.  Stood picket.

March 18th,
 Clear pleasant day.  Started to march at 6 AM.  Marched til 11 PM.  Camped and stood guard all
night.

March 19th
 Started at 7 AM.  Marched all day.  Clear and pleasant.  Camped at 9 PM.  Co. A & Co. E stood
picket guard tonight.  I am well.

March 20th
 Started at 3 AM and marched til 6 PM.  Clear and pleasant.  Marched about 16 miles today.

March 21
 Rainy day.  We was on the skermish line today and all night.  Hard fighting and heavy loss on
our side.  F. F. Fairchild killed and some of Com. F & E men.  James Philp taken prisoner and others.

March 22
 Clear pleasant day.  I'm well.  Laid still today, no fighting.  The Rebels left.

March 23rd
 Started for Goldsborough at 7 AM.  Marched all day and camped.

March 24th
 Same

March 25th
 Pleasant day.  Laid still all day.  I feel well.  Wrote to Sophia.  Recruits come into the Regt. this
PM.  Wrote to F. M. Fairchilds wife.

March 26th
 Laid still and fixed camps.  The mail came in.  I got 3 letters from Sophia and 3 from Lucy M.
Lockwood, 1 from W. L. Palmer.

March 27th
 Wrote to W. L. Palmer.  Got a letter from Sophia.  I was detailed as Company Clerk today.

March 28th
 We drawed clothes today.  I worked at the books.  Got a letter from Ed & Sophia.

March 29th
 Dark misty day.  I'm fixing up the books.  Wrote to Ed.

March 30th
 Rainy drisley day.  I feel well.  Fixing up the books.  Clears off pleasant.  I wrote to Sophia and
Martha Schoonover.

March 31
Clear and pleasant.  Clerking all day in town.

April 1, 1865

 Pleasant day.  Fixing up the books.

 I wrote to Lucy Lockwood.

April 4
 Pleasant day.  I weighed 171 lbs. today.

April 5
 Laid in the camp all day.  We had a review on dress parade.

 I wrote to Sohpia today.

 Went and got transportation for a box of clothes today.

April 9
 General review and inspection today.  I sent a box of clothes to A. Dees.  We got marching orders
this evening.

April 10
 Rainey drisley day.  We left camp at Goldsborough at 3 PM.  Marched North West direction and
camped at dark.  Marched about 8 miles.

April 11
 Started at 6 AM.  Heard from Marian Fairchild.  Clears off pleasant.  Worked at cordoroying all
day.  Marched about 5 miles.

April 12
 Clowdy AM.  Mike had Ned Coats tied to a wagon.  I found George Vickars in Co. F. 39th Ohio Regt.

April 13
 I started at 3 AM and carried rashions to Marion Fairchild.

April 14
 Started at 7 AM and marched all day, and we got into Railey (Raleigh, S.C. I think) today.  Camped
about 3 miles of Railey.  We marched about 18 or 20 miles today.

April 15
 Started at 6 AM.  Hard rain today.  We were stoped marching and turned back.  Went into camp.
Good news today--Johnsono has surrendered his army.

Sunday, April 16, 1865
 We laid still all day.  We had preaching in the Regt.  at 11AM and 6 PM.

April 17
 We laid still all day.  I stood guard at night.

April 18
 Rainy.  Mail came in today.  Hard rain in the night.

April 19
 Clowdy, appearance of rain.  I feel well.  We heard from James Philp, Martin Holland and George
Binion today.  We marched back near Rolley and camped.  The report is peace is maid.

April 20
 I wrote to Sophia and to Marion Fairchilds wife.  I feel well.

April 21
 We cleaned up the streets today.

April 22
 I wrote to Father today.

April 23
 Pleasant day.  We were reviewed by Gen. Smith at camp today.

April 24
 We was reviewed by General Sherman in town today.  I wrote to Sophia today.  I got a letter from
Lucy Lockwood and one from Sophia.

April 25
 We started to march at 12 o'clock and marched out on the R. R. about 8 miles and camped.  I
bought and sold a box of hard tacks.

April 26
 We laid still.  I fell well and hearty.  Good news today.  Johnsons army has surrendered.

April 27
 We started to march back to camp at Raileighy at 8 AM.  We camped in the old camp near
Raleigh n. Co.  Wrote to Leonard Dufur.  Got a letter from Isaac Place today.

April 28
 I went to see the boys in the 39th Ohio.  Marching orders.  I helped Mike make out the muster
and pay rolls.

April 29
 Started to march at 7 AM and marched till 5 PM.  Camped on the north side of Nuse River.

April 30
 Laid still all day.  Mustered for Pay.  Inspection of army.  I went swimming in the Nuse River.

May 1, 1865
 Started at 8 AM and marched till sun set.  Cool pleasant day.  I got a letter from James Philps wife.

May 2
 Started at 6 AM and marched across the Tar River and on until 6 PM.  Clear, pleasant and cool.

May 3
 Started at 5 AM and marched till 4 PM.

May 4
 Started at 7 AM and stoped at 9.  Laid still all day and marched till dark at 6 PM.  Looks like rain.
I'm well.

May 5
 Started at 3 AM and crossed the Rhonoke River into Virginia.  Camped at 6 PM.  We marched 28
miles today.  Rainy but warm and plesant when it cleared off.

May 6
 Started at 5 AM and marched till sunset.  We marched 24 miles today-- 20 miles of it on the Plank
Road.  I am in good health.

May 7
 Started at 5 AM and marched near Petersburgh.  Camped at 4 PM.  We marched 20 miles today.

May 8
 We marched at 8 AM marched through Petersburgh and took the road for Richmond.  Camped
in 5 miles of Petersbourgh on the R. R.

May 9
 Started at 3 AM and marched near Manchester.  Camped in an open field.  It is a rainy cold spell.
I fell well but Sig Green took sick today.

May 10
 Rainey, cold and damp.  Company G recruit Drill -  dress parade.

May 11
 Recruit drill inspection.  Hard wind and rain all night.  Night turned cold - - cold north wind.

May 12
 Started at daylight.  Cold hard rain.  We had no breakfast this AM.  Crossed James River and
marched through Richmond.  Turned off clear warm and plesant.  We camped in an open field 8 miles from
Richmond.

May 13
 Started at 11 AM and marched to Hanover Court House and camped.

May 14
 Started at 10 AM and stoped till 5 PM, then marched till 8 PM and camped for the night.  Clear
plesant day.

May 15
 Started at 6 AM and marched till 6 PM.

May 16
 Started at 4 AM - marched through Fredricksburgh - crossed the Rappahannock.  We marched
20 miles today.  Camped in the woods at 5 PM.  I feel not well but tired out.

May 17
 Started at 3 AM and marched on the rong road.  Very hot day.  We marched 13 miles out of our
way.  In all 21 miles today.

May 18
 Started at 4 AM and marched to the River near Bull Run.  Crossed and camped in 2 miles of the
river.  Rained tonight.

May 19
 Rainy AM.  I feel well.  Started at 9 AM and camped near Alexandria.  We marched 14 miles today.
I got 3 letters from Sophia, 1 from M. Schoonover and 1 from Mary Fairchild.  Camped in a wheat field.

May 20
 Laid still all day.  I wrote to Sophia.

May 21
 Rainy day.  We have to drill today.  I wrote to A. M. Beilloos and to I. F. Schoonover today.

May 22
 Cleared off and we had inspection, Company drill and Batallion drill today.

May 23
 We started at 8 AM and marched to the Patomac River.  Camped in the open field.  Weather is
cold tonight.

May 24
 We started at 7 AM and went ot Washington and had Grand Review of the 17th Army Corps.
Marched out of the city and went into camp.  Clear cool plesant day.

May 25
 Laid still and fixed up camps.  Martin Holland, Geo. Binion and John Allgood got back to the
Company today.

May 26
 Rainy.  I feel well and hearty.

May 27
 Still rainy.  Laid still in camps.  Nothing of importance.  I weighed 168 lbs. and feel well today.
 

May 28
 Cleared off and is warm and plesant.

May 29
 I Iwashed my clothed.  I feel hearty.

May 30
 Got marching orders to be ready at minnet notice.

May 31
 I helped fix pay rolls all day.

June 1, 1865
 Same as yesterday.

June 1 & 2
 Helped make out the mustering out rolls for 3 of Co. F. men today.  Wrote to Sophia.  Went  in
swimming.

June 3
 Helped make out pay rolls.  Wrote to Lucy Lockwood.  Very hot.

June 4
 Inspection of arms today.

 Weather is hot but I feel well.

 We left for Parkersburgh at dark in the cars.

June 8, 9
 Traveling in the cars.

June 10
 William Palmer and myself started for Lit Hacking.  Got to Silas Lockwood at 9 AM.

 I traveled round in the settlement and staid the night with Father.

June 13
 I went to Lockwoods out to Parkersburgh and staid at Col. Stones.

June 14
 I went to the Soldiers rest in Parkersburgh.  I feel well this AM.  I got my likeness taken 4 times
and sent them to Lucy Lockwood.  I weighed 169 lbs. today.

June 15
 Thursday - Traveling on the boat.

June 16
 Travleing on the boat.  Landed in Indiana at 9 PM and staid till next day.

June 17
 I feel well and hearty.  Laranceburgh, Ind.  Clear warm day.  I am laying at the wharf boat watching for
a steamboat.  Took the boat Gen. Little from Laranceburgh, Ind. to Louisville, Ky at 2 PM.

June 18
 Sunday, I got to the Regt. at Louisville at 8 AM.  Plesant day, rainy night.

June 19
 I wrote to Ed and to Father - to Sophia and to Silas Lockwood.

June 20
 Marching orderd tonight.

June 21
 Started at 4 AM and marched to Portland, Kr.  The Regt. got paid off and took the boat Ella Faber
for St. Louis.

June 22
 Plesant AM.  Rained last night.  Hot day traveling on the boat.  Was on guard.  Passes Cairo today.

June 23 and 24
 Traveling on boat all day.

June 25
 Landed at St. Louis at 6 AM.  Hot day.

June 26
 Laid still at the wharf all day.  I sent Sophia $50.00 by Express.  Also a box of clothes to Sidney
Place.  I wrote to both of them.

June 27
 Started at daylight.  Crossed the River.  Took on a Regt. of Cavalry.  Went back and started at
9 AM.

June 28
 Traveling on the boat.  6 of Co. F men was promoted to Corpl. from Private.  Rained all night.

June 29
 Drisley day - traveling on the boat.

June 30
 We msutered for pay.  We are traveling on the boat.

July 1
 Clear day.  Landed at Levenworth Kansas.  Went 2 miles up the River.  I got the diarrhea.

July 2
 Washed my clothes and wrote to Sophia.  We marched down near the Fort and camped by
the side of Uncle Sams farm.

July 3
 Cleaned up the streets and fixed up the camp.  I got the dirrhea.

July 4
 Fired cannons all day.  Big speaking in town.  I'm the same.

July 5
 Went to town then wrote to Sophia.

July 6
 I took a walk in the country and feel better.  Got a letter from Sophia and one from Lucy Lockwood.

July 7
 Wrote to Lucy Lockwood and to David Dufurs family.

July 8 and 9
 I'm getting better.

July 10
 Capt. Weeks got a letter about my discriptive roll.  I do not belong to the 32 Regt. so says Gen.
Haynes S A of Ill.  Great excitement about crossing the Plains.

July 11
 I got my papers to go to Olney, Ill this AM.  Started and staid all night at the Pittsburgh Hotel.
Diarrhea better.

July 12
 I started on the boat Luna for St. Louis at 7 AM.  Plesant day.  I Feel well.  We laid still at night
at Hills Landing.

July 13
 Started at 4 AM and traveled til sundown.  Staid all night at New Haven in Missouria.  My diarrhea
is well I think.

July 14
 Started at daylight and got to St. Louis at 11 AM.  I crossed the River to P & M RR depot at noon.
Took the cars for Sandoval and Centralia.  Started to walk home and camped.

July 15
 Got to Ashley at 9 AM.  Rainy in PM.  Got home at 6 PM.  I feel well.

July 16
 We went to Roots.  Serene is sick.  I've got a lame leg - the rheumatism in my rite leg.

July 17
 Clear pleasant day but my leg is so lame I can hardly walk.

July 18
 Rainy today.  Lame with the rheumatism in my rite leg.

July 19
 Damp clowdy day.  I am lame.  Staid home all day.

July 20

 I worked for Sidney Place binding oats all day.  I am lame.

 Clowdy.  I feel dull and stupid.  Mama Taylor come to see us and family all well.

 Worked at the well all day.  Hot weather.  I got a pain in my breast and had to quit work.

Aug 16
 I got a pain in my breast.  Worked at the well.  I got a letter from Patience Palmer.  I wrote to her
and to William Palmer and Silas Lockwood all 3.  Clears off pleasant by 5 PM.

Aug 17
 Hawled a load of wheat to Ashley for Waldo Gilbert.

Aug 18
 Laid round home.  I've got a pain in my back.

Aug 19
 Staid at home.  They worked th road at my house.  I've got the rheumatism in by shoulders and back.

Aug 20
 Went to Roots to see Serena.  She is sick.

Aug 21

 Maid a gate today.

Aug 23
 Started for Camp Butler on Horseback with Sidney and Isaac Place.  Left them in Centralia.  Walked
to Odum.  Staid all night with a Farmer.

Aug 24
 Walked to Patokia and took the cars to Camp Butler.  Staid all night with the 56th Ill. Regt.

Aug 25
 Found my discriptive roll here.  I went to Springfield to see Col. oaks.  Come back to Camp
Butler and went to Basix No. 5 to stay.

Aug 26
 I am laying in camp all day.  The 130 Ill Regt. come to Camp Butler today.

Aug 27
 Sunday  I staid all day in Camp Butler.  I weighted 164 lbs today.  I feel well.  I went to church at
night in the Chapell.  Clear and hot.

Aug 28
 Hot pleasant day.  I laid in camp all day.

Aug 29
 Went to Springfield and back.  It is hot.

Aug 30
 Took the cars for Decatur.  Left there for Ashley.  Got home at dark.

Aug 31
 Went to see Paul Place.  Came home, at house all day.  Rainey afternoon.

Sept 1
 I went to C. Grays and back.  Showers.  Naoma is sick with ague.

Sept 2
 Worked at home.  Hot day, dry weather.

Sept 3
 Went to F. Campbells and back.  All well.  Hot day.

Sept 4
 Maade brush fence today.  Very hot.

Sept. 5 Tuesday
 Helped Sidney Place thrash wheat.  Showery.

Sept. 6
 Helped Sidney Place thrash wheat in AM.  Showery today.  I feel well.  Pulled corn blades in PM.

Sept 7
 Rainy morning, all well.  Rain all day in showers.

Sept 8
 Clears off.  Showers.  Maid fence today.

 Cut up corn and pulled corn blades.

Sept 10
 Roots come to see us in a visit today.  Clear plesant day.

Sept 11
 Hot weather.  Cutting up corn.  We are all well today.

Sept 12
 Cutting corn.  Hot day.  Got a letter from Wm. L. Palmer this evening.

Sept 13
 Clowdy in AM.  All well.  Cutting corn today.

Sept 14, Thursday
 Hot day.  I feel well.  Cutting corn in AM.

Sept 15
 Halled cane to the mill all day.  Hot day.

Sept 16
 Hy feever all last night, sick all AM.  Hall home the molasses.

Sept 17, Sunday
 Went to Paul Places.  Eat dinner at George Newells.  Showers today.  I wrote to Father today.

Sept 18
 Clowdy.  Cut up corn.  Sid went to Ashley with Isaac Place to fetch horse back.  I feel tolable well
today.

Sept 19
 Worked at the corning in AM.  Went to Ashley, took the cars for Camp Butler.

Sept 20, Wednesday
 Got to Camp Butler.  Went to the 49 Regt.  Staid all night.  Plesant day.

Sept 21
 The 49th Regt left this AM for Springfield.  I staid.  Pleasant day.  I feel tolible well.

Spet 22
 Worked at I Francis, cutting corn.  I feel well.

Sept 23
 Worked at I Francis cutting corn.  Pleasant day.  32 Regt. got to Camp Butler today.

Sept 24
 Warm, clowdy, a little rainy.  I went to the 32 Regt. and back to I. Francis.  Staid all night.  I feel
well.

Sept 25
 Hot day.  I feel well.  Went to the 32 Regt. in the AM.  All well.  Staid in the Regt.

Sept 26, Tuesday
 Went up to the Headquarters.  Got my discriptive roll.  Went to town to see Col. Oaks with Capt.
Meeks, and back.

Sept 27
 Went to Springfield, got my pay and my discharge.  Come back to Camp Butler.  Started home on
the night train.  I feel well.

Sept 28, Thursday, 1865
 Came home.  The family sick with ague.  I feel well.  My soldering is done for a while.  I served 11
months and 2 days and got $184.70 in cash and 80 acres of land besides.  I enjoyed good health as could
be expected.
