James Norman "Norm" Arthur
James Norman "Norm" Arthur, 81, of Mt. Vernon dies 7:15 a.m.
Nov. 12, 2005, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was an accountant for W. R. Meadows Inc., in Elgin.
Mr. Arthur was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Elgin to Ray H. and Hannah
{Richardson} Arthur. He first married Pam {Ryan) Arthur March 1, 1947; she
preceded him in death in November of 1967. He then married Barbara A.
{Custer} Arthur, Sept. 21, 1968, in Elgin, she survives.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home
in Mt. Vernon, The Rev. Don Perschall will officiate. Burial will
follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with military flag
presentation service by the chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt.
Vernon.
Mr. Arthur is survived by his wife, Barbara Arthur of Mt. Vernon; a son
Jim Arthur of Elgin; a sister, Morma Richert of Elgin; four nieces and
five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Mr. Arthur was a sonar operator in the U. S. Coast Guard during World
War II, was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Mt. Vernon and loved
playing classical piano and making culinary delights.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Trinity Episcopal Church
and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey
Funeral Home, P.O. box 721, Mt. Vernon, Ill. 62864.
