George W. Axley Died Last Thursday Seventy Year Old Resident Of Viola Passed Away at His Home Mr. George W. Axley was born in Richview, Washington County Ill., on Agust 28, 1862, and died at his home in Viola, Minn, March 2, 1933, at the age on 70 years, 6 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Smith of Chester [Casner] township Jefferson County, Ill. To this union eight children were born, five of whom preceded their father in death. Those suriving are Grover C. Axley, Viola, MN., Fred W. Axley, Chicago Ill., Mrs. Earl Ferguson, Rochester Minn., besides a half brother and sister, John W. Reynolds of Dayton Ill., and Elsie M. Carroll of Chicago Ill. At the age of 14 years, Mr. Axley confessed his faith in Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and took fellowship with the M.E. church. Later in life he transferred his membership to the Church of Christ, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. During the past few months Mr. Axley had apparently been in the best health, and his sudden death came as a severe shock. He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, his widow, three children, nine grandchildren, a half brother and sister, and a host of other relatives, and friends. The funeral was held from the United Brethren church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Harvey Smith assisted by M.W. Griswold, officiating. Interment was made in the Viola cemetery.
