Vivian I. Ballard
Vivian I. Ballard, 81, of Mt. Vernon
died 2:30 a.m. Sept. 2, 2001, at her home.
She was employed by the State of
Illinois Department of Children & Family Services until her retirement.
Mrs. Ballard was born June 13, 1920,
in Jefferson County to Joseph D. and Vesta (Dees) Wilson.
She married Melvin E. Ballard on
Sept. 11, 1937, in Mayfield, Ky.; he survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m.
Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home. The Rev. Clifford Hicks will
officiate. Burial will be at South
Hickory Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey
Funeral Home.
In addition to her husband, Mrs.
Ballard is survived by one son, Roger Ballard and wife Darlene of Mt. Vernon;
one daughter, "T.J." Tawanna Hayes
and friend Stanley Higginson of McLeansboro; six grandchildren,
LeeAnn West and husband Dwight of
Mt. Vernon, Keyma Fitzjerrells and friend Mike Finney of Mt. Vernon,
Tanya Sheeler and husband Keith
of Mt. Vernon, Faron Ballard and wife Crystal of Mt. Vernon, Jodi Evans
and
husband Jerald of Radom, and Chanda
Koch and husband Jay of Mt. Vernon; 12 great-grandchildren;
three brothers, Glenn H. "Mutt"
Wilson and wife Geraldine of Mt. Vernon, Byford Wilson and wife Millie
of
Mt. Vernon, and Bill Wilson and
wife Jessie "Pug" of Walnut Hill; one sister, Faye Wells of Bonnie; brother-in-law
Gale Ballard and wife Freda; sister-in-law
Harriett Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ballard was a member of Bakerville
Freewill Baptist Church. She was active in many area saddle clubs for
many years. She was very proud of
her family and enjoyed each of their accomplishments. She was a compassionate
wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
and a loving sister and aunt. Mrs. Ballard was most happy at all
types of horse-related events and
especially trail riding and camping.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; one son, Ronnie Lynn Ballard; two brothers, Gale Wilson and Lowell
Wilson; brother-in-law Everett Wells; and sister-in-law Alma Bauman. Memorial
contributions may be made to the hospice
program at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan
Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to
Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721,
Mt. Vernon, Ill., 62864.
Hughey Funeral Home is assisting
the family with funeral arrangements.
