Robert Lee "Bob" Groh
MOUNT VERNON - Robert Lee "Bob" Groh, 77, of Mount Vernon died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at his home. He was born Thursday, Aug. 22, 1929, in Pawnee, the son of August and Emma Uhrine Groh. He married Betty Niehaus in 1953 in Raymond. Mr. Groh attended Pawnee High School and Lincoln Land Community College and earned his architectural engineering degree from the University of Illinois. He co-owned and operated Wilson, Hodge and Groh Architects and Engineers in Mount Vernon. He worked for Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, supervising the high-rises. He was past president of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and was associated and performed with the Rend Lake Community Orchestra. He was a third degree knight with the Monsignor James P. Burke Council of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Institute of Architects and St. Mary Church in Mount Vernon. Survivors: wife, Betty; two sons, Don (wife, Dena) Groh of Lyndhurst, N.J., and David (wife, Miranda) Groh of Marion; three daughters, Kathy (husband, Roger) Greenwalt of Mount Vernon, Marsha (husband, David) Braddy of Four Seasons, Mo., and Lisa Groh of Mount Vernon; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Donna Groh and JoAnn Green, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, St. Mary Church, Mount Vernon, the Rev. Daniel Jurek officiating. Interment: St. Mary Cemetery, Mount Vernon. Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
