Burton Thurmon Mathus
 

Burton Thurmon Mathus, 79, of Bluford, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at his home, following an 
apparent heart attack. He was a carpenter. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body
has been taken to the Bluford Funeral Home in Bluford. M
r. Mathus was born June 20, 1888,
in Jefferson county, the son of George and Rilla (Shelton) Mathus. He was first married to 
Agnes Green, who preceded him in death, July 5, 1936. On July 4, 1941, he was married to 
Frankie VanVelson, who survives. 
Survivors include one brother, Claude Mathus of St. Louis, MO.; four nephews and four nieces. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister. Mr. Mathus regularly attended church at East Hickory Hill.
