Solomon
R Patterson
Solomon R Patterson, son of Harvey
and Martha Patterson was born 2 1/2 miles northeast of Opdyke,
Sept. 20th, 1873, and departed this
life at home in Waltonville, Nov. 2, 1930. at the age 57 years, one
month and 13 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss
Mollie Conice in 1916 and to this union one son, Frank Holley, was born.
He is also survived by a former
marriage, by one son, Everett Patterson, of Mt. Vernon, Il., and one daughter,
Fossie Patterson, of St. Louis and
two small grand sons, Melvin and Jimmy Ray Patterson.
When quite a small boy he moved with
his parents to Kansas where his father died. His mother returning to
Illinois with five small children.
he made his home the greater part of the time, until grown, with his uncle,
and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Scrivner
of near Belle Rive Ill. Having been raised on a farm. Mr. Patterson loved
farming and especially animal <?>.
For several years he lived in Mt.
Vernon and worked at the Car Shops,
later moving to Sesser where he
worked in the mines of Franklin County for years. In 1921 he moved with
his family to Waltonville
where he has resided ever since. Mr. Patterson was a very conscientious
man, always
honest to the penny. Debts and obligations
always worried him till paid and any task he undertook was done the
very best of his ability. He was
a moral man, a good citizen, and always stood for what he thought was right.
He would much rather give than receive
and nothing pleased him so much as to give some one something.
For the past few years his health
has been failing and at times his suffering <?> intense. He bore his
suffering
bravely, seldom complaining.
He often expressed his willingness and readiness to go. He believed in
the Lord.
He believed in prayer saying he
had prayed every night for almost two years and that he had the hope of
an eternal
life hereafter. While he had been
in poor health for the past two years, his death was a shock to his many
friends
as he was confined to his
bed only six days.
The funeral service was conducted
at M. E. Church at 10:30 A.M.,
Nov. 4, Rev. Brown, assisted by
Rev. J. T. <?> and was attended by a large converse of friends.
Internment at Knob Prairie cemetery.
