DONALD J. FELLENZER - 85, Galena, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at Ennoble Manor, Dubuque, Iowa. He was born on Feb. 12, 1922 in Bowden's Furnace near Galena, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Bucher) Fellenzer. He married Marjorie J. Trevarthen on May 12, 1943 at St. Michael's Rectory in Galena. They farmed near Galena for almost 10 years, farmed near Scales Mound for over 40 years, and moved to their home in Galena just over 10 years ago. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound and recently a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Galena. He was a Democratic precinct committeeman, a member of the Holy Name Society, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed farming, visiting with family and friends, playing euchre, watching wrestling and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. He was a loving, devoted, hard working father and a gentleman. Survivors include two sons, David (Pamela) Fellenzer, Freeport, and Donald Rodney (Barbara) Fellenzer, Hazel Green, Wis.; five daughters, Maureen Kay (Ronald) McIntyre and Elizabeth (Patrick) Doyle, both of Galena, Charlene (Dale) Rolwes, Farley, Iowa, Rosemary (Michael) Feldmann, Hopkinton, Iowa, and Rebecca (Nils) Sandstrom, Freeport; 27 grandchildren, Pamela McIntyre, Scales Mound, Patricia McIntyre, Sarasota, Fla., Edmund (Leann) McIntyre, Delhi, Iowa, Rhonda (James) Kennedy, Phoenix, Ariz., Brian McIntyre, Naperville, Melissa (Craig) Geiser, Freeport, Derek (Shannon) Fellenzer, Dubuque, Maura (Marcus) Tanabe, Madison Heights, Mich., Meghan (Andrew) Murfee and Sean Doyle, both of Des Moines, Iowa, Tara (John) Donovan and Jeffrey (Becky) Fellenzer, both of Hazel Green, Corey (Jennifer) Fellenzer, San Diego, Calif., Joseph (Kelly) Rolwes and Sandy (Scott) Vaske, both of Farley, Karen (Jason) Mathes, Polk City, Iowa, Jennifer (Wade) Clark, McKinney, Texas, Beau (Megan) Tindell, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sarah (Joshua) Carroll, Yuma, Ariz., Chad (Jaymie) Feldmann and Tim (Melissa) Feldmann, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jason (Amanda) Feldmann, Cascade, Iowa, Marjorie, Mary and Michael Feldmann, all of Hopkinton, and Erik and Hannah Sandstrom, both of Freeport; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Roland; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Albertha Fellenzer; infant twin sisters, Mary and Elizabeth Fellenzer; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Charles Schoenhard; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Lee Hellickson. Visitation will be held from 1:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, 100 Carol-don Court, Galena, where the parish rosary will be said at 1:00 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena with the Rev. Chris Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Scales Mound, Ill.

HERMENA (BANTLI) FELTMEYER - Funeral services for Mrs. George Feltmeyer of Stockton was held at 1:30 p.m. in the Hermann Funeral Home at Stockton. The Rev. Richard Burrack, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, both in Stockton, officiated. Burial was in Ladies Union Cemetery at Stockton. Mrs. Feltmeyer, the mother of Norman Feltmeyer of Lanark, died Monday morning in Freeport Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church at Stockton, Stockton Order of the Eastern Star, Jefferson Thift Club and Greenvale Neighborhood Club, both of Stockton. Born May 27, 1894, in Rush Township, Jo Daviess Counties, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Roberts) Bantli. She was married to George Feltmeyer, July 31, 1912, in Pinckneyville. The couple farmed all of their married life in the Stockton area. He died February 9, 1969. Surviving are four sons, Nolan and Allen, both of Stockton, Paul of Alle River and Norman of Lanark; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Marie) Bradford of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Miss Alice Bantli. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband, by two sons and a brother.

DOROTHY (BROWN) FISCHER - age 93, a resident of the Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls, passed away on her mother’s birthday, Feb. 14, 2005, at Pine Haven. She was born in Galena, Ill. on May 6, 1911, a daughter of the late Albert and Caroline (Dimke) Brown. Dorothy attended St. Mary’s School in Galena. Dorothy Brown and Donald E. Fischer were united in marriage on Jan. 21, 1933 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freeport, Ill. where she had lived since 1929. Dorothy had been employed at the W.T. Rawleigh Company in Freeport and later at Microswitch, a division of Minneapolis-Honeywell. After retiring, the couple moved to Galena in 1970. Don preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1977. For many years, Mary had been an active member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Galena. In 1992, Dorothy moved to Sheboygan Falls, to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Randy Apel. She was a member of Holy Name Parish and the Catholic Women’s Charity Club. Dorothy enjoyed doing handiwork, sewing, crocheting and knitting. Surviving Dorothy is her daughter, Deanna “Dee” (Randy) Apel of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Jay of Long Beach, Calif., Timothy (Debra) of Freeport, Ill, Kevin (Dana) of Burke Va. and Brian (Helen) Apel of Madison; one brother, Edmund (Dorothy) Brown of Platteville, and a sister, Bernice Fleege of Sacramento, Calif. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stuart and Albert Brown; and a sister, Thelma Speaker.

ARLEY E. (SNYDER) Flickinger age 103, of Pearl City died Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Lena Nursing Home. She was born August 23, 1901 in Willow, daughter of William and Ada (Polhill) Snyder. She married William Flickinger on December 20, 1922 in Dubuque, IA; he died November 4, 1978. She was an 82-year member of the Order Of The Eastern Star in Pearl City. She had farmed with her husband near Pearl City; she loved farming and tending to animals. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Nelson of Pearl City; grandson, Jerry Nelson of Freeport; two great grandchildren, Stacy Nelson of Freeport, and Kimberly (Andrew) Keil of Cedar Falls, IA; three great great grandchildren, Nathan and Jamie Lamb of Freeport, and Lorun Keil of Cedar Falls, IA; and special neighbors, Bill and Louise Kloepping. Her parents, husband, two sisters, Nelda Bonnell and Grace Penticoff, precede Arley in death. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Pearl City. Visitations were held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial was in the Ladies Unions Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established in her memory

JOSEPH FRICK died at his home in Guilford township at an early hour last Thursday morning, March 1st aged 75 years, 2 months and 6 days. Mr. Frick was one of the oldest settlers in the township, having lived on the farm ever since 1835, except four years spent in California, from 1850 to 1854. Mr. Frick was an industrious farmer and accumulated considerable property. He was one of the best of neighbors and his friends were legion.

He leaves a wife, five daughters and one son to mourn the loss of a kind companion and indulgent father. Misses Lizzie, Mary, Emma, and Joseph reside at home and Misses Julia and Louise have a dressmaking shop in Galena. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.F. Klindworth last Saturday morning at the Lutheran church south of Schoenhard school house and interment was made in the cemetery by the church. Messrs. Victor Edge, Charles Kellar, Henry Saam, Henry Drink, Fred Koester and John Dregmiller were pall bearers. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a multitude of friends in their affliction.

MARGARET FRICK - The death of Mrs. Margaret E. Frick occurred at the family home in Guilford at 8:30 o’clock on Saturday evening.

Mrs. Frick, whose maiden name was Margareas E. Duerrstein was born in Germany on Dec. 15, 1838 and came to the United States in company with her parents in 1848, settling in Guilford township, Jo Daviess county. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Joseph Frick who preceded her to the grave in March 1900.

The surviving members of the family are five daughters and one son. These are Elizabeth and Emma at home, Mrs. L. Obermiller, Louisa, and Mary of this city, and Joseph at home. The funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock at the family home and at 11 o’clock at the Lutheran church in Guilford, interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. Mrs. Frick was a good wife and a loving mother and her loss will be felt by those who knew her for many years to come.

FRANCIS HOWARD FURLONG 77, Galena, Ill., died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at his home. He was born on Jan. 17, 1931 in Hazel Green, Wis., the son of John Loyola and Agnes Mary (Snyder) Furlong. He married Nila Ann Kieler on June 30, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, Wis. She preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 2004. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He graduated from Cuba City High School, Class of 1949, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from the Weeden Barber College, Chicago, in 1956. He barbered throughout his life and enjoyed his partnership with his cousin, Earl "Nick" Furlong, for many years. He also worked as security guard and fireman at the Savanna Army Depot until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he worked in security at the Diamond Jo Casino for several years. He was a member of the Galena Fire Department, Galena Elks Lodge, through which he participated as a Galena General, the Hydros Boat Club, the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 2665 and St. Michael's Catholic Church in Galena. His hobbies included playing cards, deer and morel hunting and gathering watercress at Buncombe. His favorite past time was groundskeeping at his beloved Vinegar Hill. His favorite memories were of his trip with his wife, Nila, to Ireland in 2001, following their 50 year anniversary celeration. Survivors include three sons, John (Robin) Furlong, Phoenix, Ariz., James (Diane) Furlong, Hazel Green, and Mark (Joyce) Furlong, Galena; one daughter, Susette (Dirk) Einsweiler, Galena; 11 grandchildren, Desiree, Nathan, RuthAnn, Niles, Dirk Jr., Nakita, Jared, John, Dylan, Gloria and Austin; one great-grandchild, Mackenzie; one sister, Mary Roberts; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen (Jane) Kieler, Oliver Jr. "Babe" (Donna) Kieler, and Dale (Pauline) Kieler; special family friend, Mary Kay Berntgen; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nila; two brothers-in-law, Harold "Hank" Kieler and Nordell Roberts. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at St. Mary's Cemetery, Vinegar Hill, on Route 84 North, where military honors were accorded at graveside.
