Journal of Homer Knapp
Contributed by Don Lancaster

I found the photo above on Ebay, but have no idea who the students or teachers might have been.

Don Lancaster found the following entries in the journal of his grandfather, Homer Knapp. The references made in the journal indicate the name of the school to be "New Hope School". I think that Elmoville School and New Hope School were probably the same, The dates are consistent..

Homer Knapp was born 14 Feb 1891 the son of Charles & Mary Jane (Kearney) Knapp

Ever pleasant will be the memories of Homer

Dear Homer,

Wealth may flee and friends deceive us,

Love may change his sunny looks.

But the treasures never leave us,

Which we gather in from books.

Your Sincere Friend

Dear Homer,

Remember me when this you see.

Remember it was written by my hand.

When I am dead and in my grave,

Or in some foreign land.

Your Teacher,

A.O. Carroll - Elmoville Illinois

Dear Homer,

When rocks and hills divide us,

And my face no more you'll see.

Remember me, your teacher,

Who wrote these lines for thee
