Bobbie R. Perry
Bobbie R. Perry, age 68 years, a resident of Elgin, and a former resident of Goreville, passed away Sunday evening, May 5, 2002, at 8pm at his home in Elgin. He was born Oct. 20, 1933 in the farm land community near Goreville. He was the son of Earl and Stella (THOMAS) Perry. Bob was united in marriage to Melba Harris on May 6, 1953. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Shalene R. Lopez, and her husband Israel of Elgin; two grandsons, Chad M. Lopez and his wife Heather of Seattle, Wash., Adam C. Lopez of Elgin; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Christopher Lopez of Carol Stream; three sisters, Hazel Craig, and her husband Omer of Goreville, Bonnie Tinsley, and her husband Bill of Bixby, Okla., Shirley Hollis, and her husband Lewis of Goreville; two brothers, Clarence Perry, and his wife Shirley of Goreville, Bill Perry, and his wife Ruth of Chicago; several very dear nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Perry. Bob was a U. S. Army veteran. He successfully completed the High Speed Signal Training School course at Fort Gordon, Ga. and was an instructor of International Morse Code at Fort Riley, Kansas. Bob was employed by the City of Elgin water Dept. from 1957 to 1964. He also worked for the United Airlines as a ticket fraud investigator from 1964 until his retirement in 1993. During his retirement, Bob worked part-time for the Wal-Mart on Randall Road as a door greeter until 1999. Bob was a member of the First assembly of God Church of Elgin for over 40 years, where he served as a deacon, song leader and choir member. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 10, 2002, at 11;30am at the Goreville First Baptist Church. Rev. Tinsley will officiate. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in the Cana Cemetery, north of Goreville. Friends may call after 6pm Thursday at the Goreville First Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held Friday evening, May 17, 2002, at 7pm at the First Assembly of God Church in Elgin. Pastor Kent Ingle will officiate. Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna is in charge of arrangements.
