Carney V. Kerley
Carney V. Kerley, 70, of Simpson, died, September 10, 1965 in the
Veteran’s Hospital, Marion, Ill. He had been in declining health for
several years.
Mr. Kerley was born in Simpson (Feb. 22, 1895), the son of Allen and
Dora McKee Kerley.
He was a retired postmaster of Simpson, having
served in that capacity for 26 years, retiring in 1959. He also was an
Illinois Central railroad telegraph operator for 12 years. Mr. Kerley
was a veteran of World War 1, and saw service in France. He was a
member of Gurney Lodge AF & AM 778 of Simpson. He was a member of
Simpson Baptist church.
He was married to Pearl Grissom, May 16, 1920. Mrs. Kerley survives
him. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lorene K. Wills, and Mrs.
Iverne Slack, both of Decatur; two sons, Harry Kerley of San Fernando,
Calif., and William A. Kerley of Golconda; six grandchildren and a
brother, Caudy X. Kerley of Marion, Ill.
One daughter, six brothers, and a sister are
deceased.
Funeral services were held, Sunday afternoon, at the Simpson Baptist
church with the Rev. Paul McGinnis officiating. He was assisted by the
Rev. Walter Homes. Interment was in the Vienna Fraternal cemetery.
Pallbearers were Owen Kerley, Cletus Morris, Allen Kerley, David Abell,
Don Jobe, and Lee Dixon.
