Charles N. Riley

Charles N. Riley, son of Thomas Riley & Cooper (Kindred) Riley, was born August 17, 1908 in Johnson County
Illinois. He departed this life Tuesday morning, November 9, 2004 at 3 AM at his home near Vienna. At the time
of his passing, Charles had attained the age of 96 years, 2 months & 23 days.
Charles was united in marriage to Velma E. (Newton) on November 21, 1931. She preceded him in death in December
1996.
Survivors include: 4 Daughters – Leola Bless of Springfield, IL, Charlene Upchurch of Springfield, IL, Melva Cameron
of Marion, IL & Donna Riley of Goreville, IL; A Son – Chesley Riley of Vienna, IL; 8 Grandchildren; 9 Great
Grandchildren; Several Nieces & Nephews.
In addition to his Parents & Wife, Charles was preceded in death by: A Son – Lowell Riley on July 18, 1970;
A Daughter – Aleta Clinton on May 30, 1994; A Sister – Pauline Cheek; 2 Brothers – Robert Riley & Ed Riley;
a Half-Sister – Mollie Emerson & a Half-Brother – Jerome Kindred.
Charles was employed at the Clyde Choate Mental Health & Development Center, prior to his retirement. He was
also a farmer, carpenter, & avid gardener. Charles had formerly served as caretaker of the Vienna Fraternal
Cemetery for many years. Charles leaves his family & many friends to cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, November 12, 2004 at 1 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 PM Thursday at the Bailey Funeral Home.
