Dorothy `Dottie` (Ragain) Whalen, 66,
of Marion passed away at 11:30 PM, Monday, June 13, 2005 at her residence.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2005 at
Busby
Chapel Cemetery in Goreville with Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating. Blue
Funeral
Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Whalen was born on March
24, 1938 in Johnson County to Vincent and Syble (Rodgers) Ragain. She
married
Jesse Michael Whalen on November 9, 1956 in DeSelm, Illinois. He preceded
her
in death on October 10, 1997.
Survivors include her sons, Jesse Michael Whalen, III of
Marion, Mark Edward and Shannon Whalen of Mechanicsburg, Illinois;
daughter, Michelle Whalen of Pesotum, Illinois; grandchildren, Luke and
Brenna
of Mechanicsburg, Illinois; mother, Syble (Ragain) Alsip of Marion;
brother and
sister-in-law, Charles Leon and Paulette Ragain of Marion; sister and
brother-
in-law, Joyce and Don King of Marion; nephew, Dale and Trina King of Creal
Springs; nieces, Jessica (Wise) and Tim Wheatley of Herrin, Jennifer (Ragain)
and Chris Gee of Marion, Rachel (Ragain) Lofton of Marion; great nieces,
Abigail Wheatley and Sierra Gee.
She was preceded in death by her father and sister,
Wilma Fern Wise.
Mrs. Whalen had retired after 43 years of employment, on
December 31, 1998 having been a State of Illinois employee in mental
health, Corrections/juvenile division, Public Aid, Long Term Care. She was
also
employed at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and the University of
Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Urbana.
She was attending McKinney Chapel Church.
She loved dogs and people and always doing well for
others. She enjoyed church, cooking, baking, reading, gardening flowers,
yard work and walking her little dog. She collected Elvis items, dog
statues and teddy bear.
