Edith M. Hennesy



Edith M. (Grant) Hennesy, 92, a resident of Metropolis and a native of Buncombe, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005 in Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Johnson County. She was the daughter of John Wesley Grant and Lula Catherine (Merriman) Grant.

Edith was united in marriage to William Earl Hennesy Jan. 23, 1934, in Jonesboro. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1997.

Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Martin of Metropolis, Viola Penrod of Vienna and Janet Norris and her husband Donnie of Cypress; a son, Jerry Hennesy and his wife Sharon of Cypress; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hennesy of Jonesboro; 14
grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Grant of Jonesboro; a
sister, Mildred Stewart of Stockton, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Helen Grant of Buncombe; two brothers-in-law, Olen Meyers and Farrell Dame; nieces and nephews.


Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, Eva Mae Hennesy; a son, Curtis Hennesy; a grandson, Danny Norris; two sons-in-law,
Leonard Martin and Hal Eugene Penrod; three brothers, Arlie Grant, Ivan Grant
and Irvan Grant; and three sisters, Eva Hudgens, Neva Dame and Mary Meyers.

Edith was a graduate of Elvira Public School.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening. Edith had
also served as a 4-H Leader. Edith was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted. Edith taught Sunday school and was a dedicated Bible student.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Brother Steven Martin, grandson of Edith, officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.
