George M. Rogers
George M. Rogers, age; 87 years, a resident of rural Buncombe, IL. Passed away Wednesday morning, October 29, 2003, at 10am at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY. Born; January 19, 1916 in Metropolis, IL. He was the son of John L. Rogers and Lucy (SHOOK) Rogers. George was united in marriage to Jean (BILLINGSLEY) on November 23, 1940 in Jackson, Missouri. She survives. Other survivors include; 1 son- Ron Rogers of Vienna, IL; 3 grandchildren- Amy Rogers of Buncombe, IL, Ronnie Rogers of Simpson, IL, and David Rogers of Simpson, IL: 7 great-grandchildren-Mercedes, Isaac, Tabitha, Kaleb, Abby, Ronnie, and Amelia; 1 sister- Billie Jean Quint of Metropolis, IL; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by; 2 sisters- Hazel Wedeking & Mildred Hillebrand; 2 brothers- Bob Rogers & Claude Rogers. George was a graduate of the Metropolis High School. He had attended the Universal Engineering School in Chicago, IL. George was self-employed in the heating and air conditioning service & installation business in the Chicago area prior to his retirement in the mid- 1970's. He was a former member of the Electrical and Pipe Fitters Unions. George was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity. George was an outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time on the 4-wheeler. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, November 1, 2003, at 11am at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Richard Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, near Buncombe, IL. Friends may call from 6pm - 8pm at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 88-541, Chicago, IL 60680-1541. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
