Hubert R. Kerley

Hubert R. Kerley, age 93, a resident of Goreville, and a former resident of Vienna and Simpson, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2001, at 1:55pm at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

He was born Dec. 3, 1907 in Simpson. He was the son of George W. Kerley and Alta (GRAY) Kerley.

Hubert was united in marriage to Helen Rose (STEWART) on Dec. 17, 1929 in Kankakee. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons and daughters-in-laws, Don and Lois Kerley of Goreville, Ron and Roma Kerley of Winthrop Harbor, Ray and Sylvia Kerley of Kenosha, Wis.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Jackie Kerley of Waukegan; one brother-in-law, Bernard Moss of Toledo, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Hubert was preceded in death by four sisters, Orpha reeves, Mary Ruth Moss, Georgia Nell Kerley and Roxie Kerley, one brother, Herbert Kerley.

Hubert had been employed as a construction laborer. He retired in 1972. He had also been employed as a mental health tech/ward attendant at the North Chicago V. A. Hospital from May 1930-Nov. 1945.

Hubert also enjoyed framing and gardening, while his health permitted, and was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau.

Hubert was the oldest living member of the Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He had been a member of the Gilead Church for 80 years.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Nov. 24, 2001, at 11am at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Vola Sittig and Rev. Ron Ferguson officiated.

Burial was in the Gilead Cemetery near Simpson, Ill.
