Dr. James F. Veach

Dr. James F. Veach, son of Earl D. & Margaret (Murrie) Veach, was born in Vienna, IL on September
6, 1921. He departed this life Wednesday evening, November 23, 2005, at 8:30 PM at his home in Vienna. At the time
of his passing, Dr. Veach had attained the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 17 days.
James attended the Vienna Public Schools, graduating with the Vienna High School class of 1939. Later that year,
he entered Southern Illinois Normal University at Carbondale, IL.
James was united in marriage to Nysabea (Taylor) on August 31, 1940. She survives.
James was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served in the European Theater of operation during World War II.
Upon his discharge in 1945, he entered the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL, receiving his
degree in optometry in 1949. He then returned to Vienna and established an optometric practice that he maintained
for fifty years.
Dr. Veach was a lifelong member of the Vienna First United Methodist Church, where he served as church treasurer
for many years. He was also a trustee and a member of the church’s administrative board. Dr. Veach was a past-president
of the former Vienna Kiwanis Club. He was instrumental in the purchase of the present Vienna City Park property.
Dr. Veach was a past president of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Vienna Public Library board.
Dr. Veach was an avid golfer. He enthusiastically supported just about every sports team that Vienna and its public
schools fielded, but particularly those whose rosters included his granddaughters.
But, foremost, he was devoted to his wife, his family, his friends, and to the community of Vienna.
Dr. Veach was particularly proud of his children: James Veach, & his wife Deborah, of Teaneck, NJ; Barbara
Mizell, & her husband Larry, of Vienna, IL; His Three Grandchildren: Margo & Charles Keene of Nashville,
TN; Megan & Vince Steele, of New Bern, NC; & Zachary Veach of Teaneck, NJ.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, November 26, 2005, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Rev. Ed Hoke will officiate. Interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 PM – 7 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL.
