Lowell Hancock
Lowell “Jack” Hancock, son of Ernest and Ora Burlison Hancock, was born
Dec. 8, 1918, and passed away in Herrin Hospital May 30, time 1:15 p.m.
Jack bore his pain patiently, “and would raise his hands. You could ask
what do you need, he’d reply I’m just praising the Lord.”
He
was married to Lucille Billingsley Hancock and to this union was born
one son, Jackie Deon Hancock, and also one daughter- in-law, Sue, of
which he was very fond.
He
was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Hancock and is survived by his
father, Ernest Hancock, and the following brothers: Jim Hancock of
Goreville, John Hancock of Kankakee, Ill. And one sister, Mrs. Pam Moore
of Grant Park, Ill. He is also survived by some dear brother and
sister-in-laws of which he was just a brother, also nieces and nephews,
uncles and aunts and a host of friends and neighbors.
Jack
as he was known was just the same to young and old. He was a husband
and father we all did love.
Now
he’s gone. He’s up above. He was so sweet good and kind, when people
hurt him he didn’t mind. He’d always say I’m proud I’m not that kind.
I’ll just live for God and do my best, I want to inherit eternal rest.
When
church, community, relative or friend needed help he was there. People
would call or visit and say “Jack” what would you suggest to make this
turn out O.K., then He’d smile and say I’m not too busy, I’ll show you
my way. God blessed him with many skills, the neighbors would say he’s
never still. He loved his music. He played in church, his dearest
selection “Richest Poor Man on this Earth.” Talents grow with the
using. For Jesus said they would,
and
Oh! The joy of hearing him say, Come home you did, what little you
could.
If
he could speak to us today he’d say, Live for God and do your best, you
all want to inherit eternal rest.
