Mae Dalton

 

Mae Dalton, age 101 years, a resident of Anna, former resident of Goreville, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2002, at 1:44pm at the City Care Center in Anna.

Mae was born on June 2, 1901 in little Rock, Ark. She was the daughter of James Robert and Sarah Jane (BILLINGSLEY) Baker.

Mae was united in married to Joe Cavitt Dalton on May 10, 1919 in Vienna. Joe and Mae were married for 67 years before he passed away on April 21, 1986. After working on their farm and sharing so much life together, Mae's life was never quite the same after losing her beloved Joe.

Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Mary Elsie Stout of Olney and Velta Louise Billingsley of Buncombe.

Mae cherished her grandchildren, Mary Louise Clodfelter, Larry Dalton Stout, Jerry Lee Billingsley, Sally Jo Billingsley-Weichinger.

In her latter years, she thought she was truly blessed to have the opportunity to know her great-grandchildren, David Clodfelter, Howard Clodfelter, Joel Stout, Sean Stout, Danny Stout, Andrea Stout, Jason Billingsley, James Weichinger and Joshua Weichinger.

Mae's blessing did not stop there, she is also survived by four great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Clodfelter, Lisa Clodfelter, Shane Streader and Konner Clodfelter. Mae was also survived by a sister, Genevieve Wiggs of Columbus, Mont. as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mae was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Hudgens, Elsie Stout Gee, Evelyn Gold; an infant sister, three brothers, Sam Baker, Orby Baker, Ed Baker; an infant brother, two sons-in-law whom she greatly loved, Lester Rae Stout and Royal Kent Billingsley.

Mae was a homemaker, who enjoyed quilting and gardening. She possessed a true pioneer spirit which has left its mark on all those she loved. "I shall be telling this with a sigh. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2002, at 11am at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Floyd Stout officiated. Burial was in the Busby Chapel Cemetery, south of Goreville.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois, 1110 North Johnson, Marion, Illinois 62959. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
