Marie Newton


Marie Newton, daughter of Fred Washington Shoemaker and Ruthie Pearl (Daniels) Shoemaker, was born June 23, 1914 in the Bloomfield Township (Johnson County) Illinois. She departed this life Wednesday morning, September 17, 2003, at 2:54 AM at her home in Vienna, IL. At the time of her passing, Marie had attained the age of 89 years 2 months & 25 days.


Marie was united in marriage to Thomas Elmer Newton on July 11, 1931 in Vienna, IL. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1973.


Survivors include: Her Children – Cliff & Janice Newton of Goshen, IN, Harry & Linda Newton of Elkhart, IN, Ron & Charlene Newton of Elkhart, IN, Sharon & Dorris Thomas of Golconda, IL, David & Elenor Newton of Burkburnett, TX, Joy Caplinger of Marion, IL, Jean Larrison of Mt. Vernon, IL, Susie & Troy Eddleman of Goreville, IL, Tom & Diana Newton of Mt. Vernon, IL, Gayla & Wendell Warren of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Anita & David Wright of Simpson, IL; 24 Grandchildren; 39 Great Grandchildren; a Sister – Ruby Dungan of Dupo, IL; Several Nieces & Nephews.


In addition to her Parents & Husband, Marie was preceded in death by: a Sister – Hazel Miller and a Brother – Freddie Shoemaker.


Marie was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, doll collecting, and was an avid reader. Marie loved her country and was very patriotic. Marie had also worked as a cook at the Whiteside Public School.
Marie was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church.


Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, September 20, 2003, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Mark Staton, Rev. David Wright and Rev. Kenneth Blumenstock will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Friends may call after 5 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
