Marilyn Sanders


Marilyn Jean Sanders, daughter of Frank E. Lasley & Mary Helen (Shoemaker) Lasley, was born October 10, 1937 in Mounds, IL. She departed this life on Friday, April 30, 2004, at 7:20 PM at her home. Marilyn was united in marriage to Charles R. Sanders on February 15, 1961 in Mounds, IL. He survives.


At the time of her passing, Marilyn had attained the age of 66 years 6 months & 20 days.


Other survivors include: a Daughter – Jeanne Marie Williams, and her husband Boyd, of Vienna, IL; a Son – Steven Charles Sanders, and his wife Michelle, of Vienna, IL; 2 Grandsons – Charles Andrew Williams and Matthew Boyd Williams; 2 Sisters – Joyce Hinson, and her husband Bill, of St. Genevieve, MO and Glenda Brown, and her husband Grady, of Oakville (South St. Louis County) MO; a Nephew, 2 Nieces, Aunts, Uncles, other relatives and many dear friends.


Marilyn earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from S.I.U. She taught Music and directed the Band at Meridian Grade School from 1959 – 1973. Marilyn then served as the Music Instructor and Band Director at the Vienna Grade School from 1973 – 1983. She has also taught a number of music courses through Shawnee Community College from the late 1980’s – present; as well as offering private music and voice lessons.


Marilyn was a Life Member of the National Education Association, a member of the Women’s International Band Directors Association; and Delta Kappa Gamma (an Honorary Teacher’s Society).


Marilyn was baptized at the Mounds First Baptist Church. She later moved her Church membership to the Fellowship Baptist Church, and more recently to the Vienna First Baptist Church, where she served as Church organist and had served as the choir director.


Marilyn leaves her family and many dear friends to cherish her memory.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, May 4, 2004, at 11 AM at the Vienna First Baptist Church. Rev. Verle Eaker will officiate. Interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.


Friends may call after 5 Monday at Bailey Funeral Home and from 10 AM – 11 AM Tuesday at the Church.
