Nell Johns

Nell (Alldredge) Johns, daughter of Elijah Alonzo Alldredge & Cleora
Bell (Beals) Alldredge, was born April 26, 1918 in Posey County,
Indiana. She departed this life Friday evening, September 24, 2004, at
11:25 PM at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna, Illinois. At the
time of her passing, Nell had attained the age of 86 years, 4 months
& 29 days.
Nell was united in marriage to Walter Merritt Johns on September 1,
1934. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1976.
Survivors include – 4 Daughters – Marilyn & Phillip Morris of
Tunnel Hill, IL, Deborah B. & Michael Gray of Grantsburg, IL,
Rebecca & Dennis Waller of Vienna, IL, and Cynthia & Dr. Keith
Snyder of St. Louis, MO; 8 Grandchildren – Tim Morris, Matt Morris,
Ben Morris, Jonathan Waller, Adam Waller, Rebekah Waller, Drew Snyder,
& Joel Snyder; 2 Great Grandchildren – Tim Morris & Katie
Morris. In addition to her Parents & Husband, Nell was preceded in
death by a Brother & Sister-in-Law – Wayne B. & Edith
Alldredge.
Nell was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, knitting & was an avid
reader. She devoted the time to teach all of her daughters to sew &
cook. Nell additionally served as a bookkeeper in the family business,
the former Johns Chevrolet & Oldsmobile dealership in Vienna. When
the business was sold to John De Leonardo, Nell continued to serve in
the capacity of bookkeeper, prior to her retirement.
Nell was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna. She had
formerly been a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church, where she had
served as Church Clerk & Bookkeeper; taught an Adult Sunday School
Class; and was a Bible School volunteer worker. Nell was devoted to her
Husband & Family.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning, September 27, 2004, at
10:30 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Steven Lindsay will
officiate. Interment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 PM – 8 PM Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home and
from 9 AM – 10:30 AM Monday at the Church.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association or to the
Fellowship Baptist Church.
