Velva
Lorene Brown Gore, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died Wednesday,
February 6, 2008 at Mesa Springs HealthCare Center, Abilene,
Texas, at the age of 94. Lorene was born January 27, 1914 in
Cypress, Illinois to Huey Melvin Brown and Purla Jane Osman.
She grew up in Johnson County, Illinois and married Virgil Leslie Gore,
June 28, 1932, in Vienna, Illinois. They were later divorced
and he preceded her in death.
Lorene
owned and operated Lorene's Beauty Shop in Springfield, Illinois until
she retired in 1979 and moved to Weatherford, Texas. She
moved to Abilene, Texas in 1988 and lived there until her death.
Lorene
is survived by a daughter, Patricia Gore Clayton and husband, Arthur
[Barney], Springfield, Illinois; sons, Jack L. Gore and wife, Collen of
Azle, Texas; and Leslie L. Gore and wife, Jean of Abilene,
Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren; Janette Gore
Beam and husband Lonnie, Azle, Texas and Brenda Clayton Hinds and
husband, Alan, Springfield, Illinois. Great grandchildren
surviving are: Anthony Beam, Azle, Texas; Melody, Natalie and Clayton
Hinds, Springfield, Illinois. Three brothers preceded her in
death; Lloyd C. Brown, Hubert W. Brown and Roy H. Brown. Two
sisters survive: Sylvia Brown Beggs, Cypress, Illinois and Wilma Brown
Racey and husband Darwin, Vienna, Illinois. She is also
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, February 14, 2008, in Karnak, Illinois
under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. Burial in the
Cypress Masonic Cemetery followed the funeral services
Local arrangements were handled by the Hamil Family Funeral
Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
