Onzie Dixon
Onzie Dixon, son of
Minerva and James B. Dixon, was born near Dixon Springs, Illinois, July
23, 1888 and departed this life February 16, 1961. He was
married to Pearl Prince and to this union nine children were
born. Four sons, Obe Cecil, Amos James, Elbert and Marshall
Dale and one daughter, Pearl Gladys, all passed away in early
childhood. One son, Lennis Prince was called to his eternal
home at the early age of 23 years and Oakley suffered a heart attack
which claimed his life on July 11, 1955.
Surviving are a son, Bernard of
Patchogue, New York and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Simmons of Lake Bluff,
Illinois; five grandchildren and one great-grandson; also his wife,
Effie Murphy Dixon, to whom he was married October 27, 1928, whose
loving companionship gave him courage throughout his declining years.
Onzie spent the greater part of his life as an employee as an employee of the Illinois Central Railroad Co., and for several years had been a resident of Grantsburg where he held the esteem of all that knew him. Onzie Dixon made his profession of faith to God at an early age, and became a member of County Line Baptist church, later transferring to Grantsburg Baptist church, where he remained a faithful member until his death. Funeral services were conducted February 18 at the Robertson Funeral Home by Rev. John Cox, pastor of Grantsburg Baptist Church, with burial in the Kerley Cemetery. Robertson Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
