   Bessie Kerley Hayden, age 77, of Route 1, Simpson, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 12, 1980.
   She was born February 26, 1903 in Williamson County, the daughter of William H. and Etta Greathouse Scarborough.  She was first married to Loren Clarence Kerley.  She later married R. L. Hayden.
   Mrs. Hayden is survived by a son, L. C. Kerley of rural Simpson; two grandchildren; three sisters, Zelma Cletcher of Peoria, Edna Scarborough and Verna Kommer, both of Metropolis and one brother, Lester Scarborough of Route 1, Simpson.
   She was a retired school teacher of Pope and Johnson County schools and had served as Administrator of Pope County Grade School at Golconda.  She was a member of Ozark Baptist Church, a member of Delta Gamma Psi Chapter and Egyptian Chapter No. 30. OES.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 14, 1980 at 2 p.m. at Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian church with Dr. Bill Baker officiating.  Burial was in Gilead Cemetery.
