Thursday
morning, February 16, 1956 marked the close of the earthly life of
Lenore Russell Peterson. She was the daughter of Jackson and
Lenna Hendricks Russell and was born in Union county, Illinois April 4,
1873 and was 82 years, 10 months and 11 days of age at the time of her
passing.
She was the eldest child of a family of
eight and is survived by the following sisters and brothers, Mrs.
Sophronia Lovelace, Mrs. Ethel Toler, Mrs. Fannie Escue and Owen
Russell, all of Goreville and Lowell Russell of West Frankfort.
On October 30, 1890 she was united in
marriage to Preston Burklow, who preceded her in death April 2,
1917. To this union were born nine children. Three
have preceded her in death. The surviving ones are, Mrs. Eva
Jessie, Mrs. Bernice Humphrey and Owen Burklow of Michigan City,
Indiana, Mrs. Dimple Martin and Mrs. Mable Hunsacker of Fresno, Calif.,
and Mrs. Violet Ritchey of San Fernando, Calif. In addition
to these family members there are eleven grandchildren, ten great
grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
In September 1919, while living in
Michigan City, Ind., she was again united in marriage to Mr. William
Jesse. Some years after their marriage they came to live in
Goreville and it was there on August 28, 1941 that death again entered
her home and claimed this companion. On May 8, 1943 she was
married to George Peterson, who survives. They too, made
their home in Goreville.
Mrs. Peterson had been in declining
health for many months and all that was humanly possible to do, was
done to restore her to health, but to no avail.
Mrs. Peterson was a Christian
woman. She was converted many, many years ago and was a
member of the Goreville Methodist church. When from her frail
hands were dropped the working tools of life, she went calmly and
peacefully to Him, who doeth all things well. There was no
fear for she had come to know her pilot and had placed her trust in Him.
