Services for Donald L. Toler, 41, editor of Rotor & Wing International magazine, who was found dead Thursday afternoon on a pathway off Grandview Drive, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wilton Mortuary, the Rev. Jeffrey S. O'Neill officiating.

     Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until services.  Cremation rites will be accorded.

     A resident of 2414 E. Grandview Ave., Toler was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. (May 31, 1987) in the 3600 block of Grandview Drive.  He was found a bout 30 minutes earlier by a fellow employee on a walking-jogging path.

     He was a 1967 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he received his bachelor's degree in radio-television-journalism.  In 1971, he did 10 hours of graduate work in public relations at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

     He served in the U.S Air Force during the Vietnam War from April 1968 to March of 1976.  He spent those eight years producing newspapers for Air Force related activities.  This included editing publications, doing re-write work, reporting, photography and feature work.

     He was awarded commendation medals twice while in service and also received the meritorious service medal.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of captain.

     He joined the Journal Star Rotor & Wing staff June 28, 1976, was promoted to managing editor Dec. 31, 1979, and to editor June 223, 1980.

     He was a member of Aviation Space Writers Association, American Society of Business Press Editors, and the American Helicopter Society.

     Born June 27, 1945, in West Frankfort of Donal and Stella Howard Toler, he married Pamela F. Herman Dec. 31, 1986, in Peoria.

     Surviving are his wife; his mother, and one sister, Mrs. Bill (Virginia) Costellia, both of West Frankfort.  His father and one sister preceded him in death.

(Note- Donald's ashes, marked with his military plaque, were later buried near his parents in Busby Cemetery, Goreville, IL)
