Winnie Myrtle Vaughn
Winnie Myrtle Vaughn was born March 3rd,
1897--departed this life June 24, 1917, at the youthful age of 20
years, 3 months, 21 days. She was stricken with that dread disease
tuberculosis, but was confined to her bed only a short time, and all
that loving hands and kind friends could do was done to keep her with
us, but the Lord called her and she passed peacefully into the great
beyond on the above date. Winnie bore her affliction patiently, as one
can who has the strong arm of Jesus to lean upon. Realizing that her
stay upon earth was short, she often remarked that she was ready to go,
and was not afraid to die. (What a comforting thought to the bereaved
ones). She left instructions as to how she wanted to be put away, which
was carried out as she requested. Winnie was left an orphan at the
tender age of 15 months, and was given a home by her aunt, (Mrs. T.F.
Bowman), who gave her a mother's love and care during her short stay
here upon earth, and we certainly sympathize with Uncle Tom and Aunt
Sue in this their bereavement, for we know they loved and cared for
Winnie as their own.
Winnie leaves to mourn her departure four half brothers, three half sisters, other relatives and a host of friends, for it has been truly said, she had no enemies. She professed faith in Christ in the year 1910, united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Concord. Bro. Hammock baptizing her into that church the same year, of which she was a member when death called her away. She lived a devoted Christian life, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in distress, and saving or doing no harm to anyone, which assures us that she is now in Heaven. At Rest with Jesus--Amen. Funeral services were held at Concord church conducted by Rev. John Hill, assisted by J.A. Whiteside, with a large concourse of relatives and friends present, after which the natural body was laid to rest in the Warren cemetery there to await the resurrection morn, when it shall come forth a spiritual body, and Death is swallowed up in victory. Sleep on, Dear Winnie; take thy rest, God called thee home--He knoweth best. J.A. WHITESIDE We desire to express our thanks to our neighbors and friends who were so kind and faithful in their ministrations during the illness and death of our dear niece and relative. MR. AND MRS.
