Alexander Vinson
One of the Oldest Citizens of Johnson County Passes to His Reward; Funerals Services Held Wednesday Afternoon
Mr. Alexander Vinson, one of the oldest residents of Johnson County, died at the home of his son, H. P. Vinson, on Monday afternoon, July 29th, 1935, at the age of 98 years, 7 months and 15 days. Mr. Vinson was the son of Alexander and Lucy Jane Gibson who came to Johnson County from North Carolina in 1853. Mr. Vinson was born June 14th, 1836, and in his early years prospered above most of his neighbors, and at one time owned 1000 acres in Johnson County. On February 19, 1859 our subject married Ann Webb and to this union 12 children were born. Five children preceded him in death and his wife died in 1912. The seven children that survive him are Mrs. Caroline Kelly, Mrs. Lucy Jane Webb, Mrs. Josie Edmonds, A. A. Vinson, D. C. Vinson, H. P. Vinson and Mrs. Nellie Moore. Funeral services were held at the Saints Church in Tunnel Hill on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 and were conducted by Rev. E. W. Sutton, the Ozark Quartet being in charge of singing. Burial was in Webb Cemetery with pallbearers being Johnnie Simmons, Ray Webb, John Mahan, Pleas Vinson, Jr., Eugene Killum and Joe Simmons. Vienna Times, August 1, 1935 |
