My gg-grandfather, John York is on
the 1818 and the 1830 Johnson County, Illinois census. He was born in
NC and Sarah we believe to have been born in TN (not sure)
I have a copy of the census. Can you help me find anything else about
him and his family. We have established from Family Records that
Sarah's maiden name was Mangrum. since she was born abt 1808 that she
might be
related to the Henry Mangrum who is also listed on the 1818 and 1830
Johnson County, Illinois census.
I have not been able to find where my John York and Sarah married. I
know this is my John York because of information from one of the sons
CSA Pension File in Texas.
My gg-grandparents wound up in 1840 in Clark Co. Arkansas, then in 1850
they are in Hempstead County (Missouri Township) Arkansas. They then
left there in 1858 or 1859 and came to Navarro County, Texas settling
near Pisgah Ridge at Richland Crossing near the small community named
Pursley which is southwest of Corsicana, TX. They are all on the 1860
Navarro County, TX census and Sarah (Mangrum) York, my
gr-gr-grandmother and other members of the family are listed on the
1870 census for Navarro Co. TX , but my gr-gr-grandfather, John
York, who is not listed is believed to have died just prior to 1870
there in the Pursley, Texas community.
Can anyone living there in Illinois or researching Yorks there share
with me any knowkedge they have of some York there related to my John
York ?
I have info on them in Ark. and then on to Texas and their ages off of
the 1850 Hempstead Co.Ark. census.
Also I have the Ark. marriage info. Those children old enough married
in Ark. before coming on to Texas.
Per the 1830 Ill. census, compared to the 1850 Ark. census they had one
son die before coming
to Ark. I was hoping someone might help me find out about this.
John put his age at 53 on the 1850 Ark. census,
so he was born in NC abt 1797. Sarah was 42 birth place unknown. It is
where and what happened between 1800 and 1830 that I would like to find
something out.
Any connection to my York Family that someone is aware of there in
Illinois or elsewhere I would appreciate hearing from you.
