Ricky Lynn Gurley
Ricky Lynn Gurley, 33, Route 1, Thompsonville, was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:35 a.m. Sunday Nov. 4, 1984 at Marion Memorial Hospital, after a single - car accident on the Corinth Blacktop in Williamson County. Police said his eastbound car off the road into a ditch, then crossed back onto the road before hitting a utility pole. Investigation into the accident is continuing; an inquest has been scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at the Williamson County Courthouse. Mr. Gurley was a foreman at the Kerr - McGee Mine in Galatia. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Cedar Grove and the Masonic Lodge in Christopher. He was born July 27, 1951, in Buncombe to Lora J. and Ruth Irena (Stokes) Gurley. He married Pam Chamness Aug 10, 1984, in Paducah, KY. Survivors include his wife, of Thompsonville; his mother, of Herrin; two sons, James Brett Gurley and Ryan Matthew Gurley, all of Herrin; one stepson, Shawn Moake of Thompsonville; and one brother, James Lavon Gurley of Paducah. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in Herrin. Burial will be in the Busby Chapel Cemetery near Goreville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
