Robert D. Warren
Robert D. "R. D." Warren, son of William David Warren and Ruth (Martin) Warren, was born February 26, 1914 near Little Rock, Arkansas. He departed this life Tuesday morning, October 7, 2003, at 7am at his home near Vienna, Illinois. At the time of his passing, Robert had attained the age of 89 years, 7 months, & 11 days. Robert was united in marriage to Violet E. (SMITHSON) on December 5, 1937 in west Memphis, Arkansas. Together they enjoyed over 65 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by; a Son - Robert "Dick" & Paula Ann Warren of Wood River, IL; 3 Grandchildren - Rene & Ed Slayden, Keri & Ron Campbell, and Michelle & Bill Watts all of Bethalto, IL; a Grandson - Robert David Warren of Vienna, IL; 11 Great Grandchildren - Whitney (age 17), Katlyn (age 11), Christopher (age 22), Danielle (age20), Mike (age17), Demi (age 9), Nicole (age 15), Ryan (age 8), Brianna (age 4), Tori (age 13), and Tabi (age 12); a Sister - Opal Smithson of Dallas, TX, Nieces & Nephews. In addition to his Parents, Robert was preceded in death by; an Infant Daughter - Helen Ruth Warren; 2 Sisters - Lorene Rose & Marbell Taylor; and a Brother - Olen "Jack" Warren. Robert was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had served as a Chief Petty Officer. Robert was formerly a member of the Wood River, IL VFW Post. Robert was employed as a Machinist at the Olin Corporation. He retired March 1, 1977. Robert was professionally associated with the International Association of Machinists. Robert attended the Gilead Church near Simpson, IL. He was a member of the Westerner Club and enjoyed woodworking. Robert loved his farm and enjoyed watching and caring for wildlife; he would never let an animal go hungry. Robert leaves his family & many dear friends to cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, October 10, 2003, at 11am at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Bud McDannel will officiate. Interment will be in the Gilead Cemetery, near Simpson, IL. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 of Vienna, IL. Friends may call from 5pm-8pm Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 805 W.
