Roger E. Hume
Roger E. Hume, 72, of Goreville, passed away at 6:45pm Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Herrin Hospital in Herrin. Funeral services were held at 1pm Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Goreville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Bealmear officiating. Visitation was from 5pm to 8pm Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the Goreville United Methodist Church. Burial was at Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Blue Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Goreville United Methodist Church, envelopes are available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, po Box 411, Marion, Il. 62959. Mr. Hume was born in Ottawa, on Dec. 12 1930, to Millard and Gertrude (CHURCHILL) Hume. He married Ruth Walker on June 16, 1984, in Goreville and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Hume and Randy McCabe, Rhonda Summerland and Mathew Williams; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Walker of Goreville; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Marlene Walker and Tom Gagnon of Champaign; four grandchildren, Emily, Wesley and Nora McCabe and Chloe Summerland; two step grandchildren, Micki Beth and Raleigh Walker; one brother, David Hume of Bloomington; one sister, Martha Jahnke of Normal and one niece, Amber Jahnke. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene Hume and a sister, Joan Jahnke. Mr. Hume was a retired electrical engineer. He played golf, woodworking and collecting antique clocks. He served his country in the United States Navy and Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
