Ruby (BYNUM) Burris Shelton

Dies at 95; Rites Dec. 23, 1992. 

Ruby Burris Shelton, Vienna, native of Pope county, died at 8:05 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21,1992 at Marion Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Willard Murrie and Robert Hull officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Aly Funeral Home, Vienna, was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Shelton was born in Pope county May 27, 1897, daughter of Burt and Lona Lauderdale Bynum.

On June 2, 1914, at Golconda, she was married to Melvin Burris, who preceded her in death February, 1961. On June 14, 1968, at Simpson, she was married to Roy Shelton, who preceded her in death in September, 1976.

Ms. Shelton is survived by two daughters, Gertrude Owen, Simpson, and Jeslyn Harrison, Springfield; two sons, Bynum Burris, Vienna, and William Eldon Burris, Carlsbad, N.M.; eleven grandchildren, and one brother Coy J. Bynum, Sand Springs, Ok. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Ms. Shelton, a homemaker and a retired employee of the Anna Mental Health Center, was the oldest living member of Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Simpson. (1993)
