Ruth L. (Thornton) Gurley-Calhoon

Ruth L. Gurley-Calhoon, 92, of Vienna passed away at 8:07 PM, Friday, August 25, 2006 at Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Busby Chapel Church in Goreville with Reverend Kenny Blumenstock officiating. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the church. Burial will be at Busby Cemetery in Goreville. Memorials may be made to Hillview Healthcare Center; envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.

Mrs. Calhoon was born May 21, 1914 in Johnson County, Illinois to Dow and Lizzie (Brakevill) Thornton. She married Louie Gurley, after his death, she later married Oren Calhoon, who also preceded her in death.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Brenda Gurley of Goreville; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; son, Jerry Lee Gurley; and two brothers.

Mrs. Calhoon was a homemaker. She was a member of Busby Chapel Church in Goreville for over 70 years.
