Sam C. Kelley
Samuel C. Kelley, age 89 of Route 1, Goreville died Wednesday, July 27, 1983 at Marion. He was born July 29, 1893 in Goreville Township, the son of William Presley and Mexico Ollis Kelley. On February 13, 1915 he married Thursa Calhoon at Goreville. She survives. Mr. Kelley is also survived by a daughter, Blanche Ray of Goreville; two sons, Lester N. Kelley of Nashville, Tennessee and Bill Kelley of Goreville; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a sister, Orpha Corzine of Goreville and a brother, Alvah Kelley of Goreville. He was preceded in death by a son, Francis Ray Kelley and a brother, Noel T. Kelley. Mr. Kelley was a member of Saline Lodge No. 339 at Goreville; Modern Woodmen; and was the first maintenance man on Rt. 37 between Marion and Vienna. He was a retired custodian at Ferne Clyffe State Park. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 30, 1983 at 2 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Chapel in Goreville. Burial was in Cana Cemetery. Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Obit was in the Vienna times.
