Vesta Powell

Ida Vesta (Trammell) Powell, was born August 11, 1911 in Pope County, near the Eddyville community, she was the fourth child of James Thomas Trammell & Annie Bell (Wise) Trammell.

She departed this life Friday evening, February 4, 2005 at 11:35 PM at the Pope County Care Center in Golconda, IL. At the time of her passing, Vesta had attained the age of 93 years, 5 months & 24 days.

Vesta married Raymon Powell of Buncombe, IL on June 4, 1952. To them no children were born. They made their home on their farm in West Vienna for many years, until declining health forced them to leave the farm for a nursing facility. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1991.

Survivors include: a Nephew – Murray Schuchardt & his wife Mary Ann of Glendale, IL; 2 Nieces – Fern Burnside & her husband Bill of Danville, IL & Shirley Halter & her husband Walter of Golconda, IL; Along with many Great Nieces & Great Nephews.

 In addition to her Parents & Husband, Vesta was preceded in death by: 1 Sister – Ethel Schuchardt; 2 Brothers – Oscar Trammell & an Infant Brother – Robert Joel Trammell.

Vesta had been employed by the former Bob White Hotel as a Desk Clerk. She had also worked at the Dixon Springs Pool. Vesta enjoyed fishing & squirrel hunting. She also enjoyed gardening & growing a variety of flowers. Vesta was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Vesta leaves her family & friends to cherish her memory.

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11 AM a the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Buncombe, IL. Friends are asked to gather at the cemetery at approx. 10:45 AM. Rev. Dennis Fager will officiate.
