Council Proceedings (Batavia)
Council Room, Aug 14, 1893
The council met in regular session.
Members present: Mayor Bartholomew; Alds. Fitzgerald, Kelleher, Doty, Hunter, Pratt, Anderson, Stewart and Bucher.
The minutes of the meeting of Aug. 7th were read and approved.
Mr. Mitchell, representing the Fire Extinguisher co., of Chicago, made a verbal communication to the council in regard to their fire protection.
Mr. Mahan, representing Lindgren & Mahan Chemical Fire Engine co., of Chicago, made a verbal statement to the council in regard to their Chemical Fire Engines.
A written communication was received from Mr. A. Bell in regard to signing contract for recoating concrete side walks.
Moved by Doty, seconded by Bucher, that the communication be referred to Street committee for consideration for one week. Carried.
Dr. J.C. Augustine, health officer, reported having received a communication from the C.& N. W. Ry. Co., in regard to their stock yards, and state that they would agree to thoroughly drain said stock yards.
The health officer also reported in regard to drain on north side of Wilson street, near Anderson Bros. store, and stated that the stench coming said drain was caused from private sewers.
Moved by Bucher, seconded by Fitzgerald, that the Chief of health department be sintructed to cut off private sewers from said drain. Carried.
The following bills were presented and read:
F.E. Marley, printing - $8.75
W. Richards, unloading coal - 1.75
John Houlihan, street labor - 6.00
John Mulroy, street labor - 4.80
John A. Anderson, sprinkling - 6.00
E. Holbrook, sundries .91
Moved by Fitzgerald, seconded by Hunter, that Mr. holbrook's bill be referred back to him for explanation. Carried.
Moved by Pratt, seconded by Anderson, that the remainder of bills be allowed and orders drawn from the different funds in payment of the amounts.
Ald. Hunter offered an amendment that all bills be referred to the finance committee.
