John Ackland & Bertha Lutz

Mr. and Mrs. John Ackland, 1052 North Lincoln Highway, Rochelle, celebrated their golden wedding at an open house, Sunday, March 16, 1952. A family dinner also in celebration of the occassion was held in the social room of the high school.

John Ackland and bertha Lutz were married March 12, 1902 at the Lutz home near Scarboro by the Rev. Banty. They have five children, Clarence, Compton; Howard and Jeff, West Brooklyn, Merritt, San Gabriel, C alif., who with his family came by air for the event, and a daughter, Mrs. Howard Cheeseman, Ashton. The 13 grandchildren were all present.

Lawrence Lutz, Rochelle, was athe only wedding attendant present for the golden wedding.

The honoree's sons and son-in-law received the guests and daughter and daughters-in-law presided at the table. The centerpiece was a three-tiered wedding cake decorated with gold leaves and a golden wedding ornament.

The bride of 50 years ago wore a stone blue silk shantung dress and had a corsage of a white orchid that had a gold throat and was tied with a gold ribbon.

Nearly 350 guests were greeted during the day by the Acklands who also received many cards, telegrams, floral remembrances and gifts. As guests were received the woemen were presented with a gold ribbon book mark and the men with a gold pencil.
