Levi H. Davis

Rev. Levi H. Davis, farmer, section 30, township of Paw Paw, post office, Earlville, LaSalle County has 108 acres of land. He was born in the town of Providence, Saratoga, County, New York on August 2, 1837 and is the son of Richard C. and Susan E. (Pawling) Davis. He removed in the spring of 1846 with his parents to Oswego, Illinois and in December of that year came to Paw Paw Township, DeKalb County, Illinois. He was brought up a farmer and was married at Buchanan, Michigan to Mrs Mary J. (Sawyer) Davis, widow of his brother, Alexander P. Davis who was drowned in the Illinois River on July 24, 1864. Levi was a father to step-son Charles A. and a son born to Levi and Mary; Wyman P. Davis.

Mr Davis united with the Baptist Church at the age of 10 years. In 1861 he began laboring for the conversion of souls. He soon after joined the Second-Advent Christian Church and became a preacher of that faith in 1863. Mr Davis has served his School District (Number 1) nine years as Director.
