Lee County Biography

The Lee Co., IL. Genealogical Society in Dixon has an old settlers list which shows Harvey Morgan b. 1810 Ohio, arrived in Lee County in 1834 and died Aug. 16, 1880.

Also a pre-1948 Dixon Telegraph index for July 29, 1880, pg. 1, col. 1 Harvey Morgan, Oldest settler of Lee Co.

One other pre-1948 Dixon Telegraph index dated May 24, 1877, pg. 1., col. 3 tells of the marriage of Harvey Morgan to Mrs. Ann Richmond.

An ad in the July 24, 1872 Dixon Telegraph: Harvey Morgan, Justice of the Peace, conveyance and collecting agent Main Street, Dixon, ILL.

The pre-1948 Dixon Telegraph index on the Lee Co., IL. Genealogical Society's Website shows that Perry Lon Morgan was the 1st white child born in Palmyra, not George Page.

Pg. 1, Column 3. In searching the 1873 Dixon Sun newspaper under the heading Dixon Telegraph on Ancestry.com I came across this article dated Wednesday Oct. 29th: "We learn from private letters that Perry Morgan, son of Harvey Morgan Esq., of this city, died at Monitor, Alpine Co., Cal., on the 4th inst. He was taken with a congested chill on the 1st inst., and although having excellent care, never rallied from the first attack. He was born in Gap Grove in Nov. 1834, and resided in Dixon or vicinity until 1858 when he left Dixon for California. He will be remembered kindly by many friends."

Dixon Telegraph October 22, 1873 from a previous article in The Dixon Sun, Dixon, IL. dated October 15, 1873. "Mrs. Harvey Morgan died at her residence in North Dixon, on the evening of October 12th. The funeral took place on the 13th and was attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. She was born in Butler county, Ohio and was sixty-one years of age at the time of her death. On Feb. 20th, 1834, she was united in marriage to Mr. Hawey (sp) Morgan at Pekin, Illinois. From there she came with her husband to Sugar Grove, Lee county, in April 1834, from whence they removed to Dixon in April 1853, where she has since resided. She leaves a husband, Hawey (sp) Morgan, Esq. of this city, and four children, two of whom reside in Lee county and two in California. Mrs. Morgan has been in ill health for some time, and although this fact was generally known, still, very few were prepared to hear of her sudden death." (Family trees on Ancestry.com indicate that Mrs. Morgan was Sarah Shoemaker, b. 1 Oct. 1812, Oxford, Butler Co., Ohio and that Harvey Morgan was b. 1819 in Xenia, Greene Co., Ohio.)
