75th Infantry Dixon Volunteers

The 75th Illinois Volunteers was organized at Dixon, IL, on the 2nd day of Sept. 1862, by Col. George Ryan. Ordered to Lousiville, KY, Sept. 27. Was Brigaded with 30th Brigade, Col. Post; ninth Division, General Mitchell of Buell's Army.

October 1st, marched in pursuit of Bragg. Oct. 8, engaged in the battle of Chaplain Hills, losing 47 killed, 166 wounded, and 12 prisoners. Marched to Crab Orchard, Col. Woodruff assuming command of the Division. Returned via Lebanon and Bowling Green, to Nashville--General Jeff C. Davis taking command of the Division. Encamped four miles from Nashville, on the Lebanon Pike, November 7, 1862.

Since which time no historical memorandum is given in the Adjutant General's reports.

Mustered out June 12 1865, at Camp Harker, Tennessee, and arrived at Chicago, June 15, 1865, where the regiment received final payment and discharge.

75th Volunteers Organized Here

The 75th Illinois Volunteers in Dixon, on the bank of the river, were mustered into service by Adjutant General Fuller, September 4, 1862. The regiment elected the following officers:

George Ryron, colonel; John E. Bennett, lieutenant colonel; W.M. Kilgour, major; Jerome Hollenbeck, adjutant; G.W. Phillips, surgeon; J.C. Corbus, assistant surgeon; J.E. Remington, quartermaster.

The regiment was made up of volunteers from Lee and Whiteside counties - five companies from each. The officers of Company A were James A. Watson, captain; E.Giles, first lieutenant; WIlliam Parker, second lieutenant; F.O. Headley, A.K. Buckaloo, Horace Judson, W.J. Cogswell and J.A. Hill, sergeants.

The company left for Louisville, Kentucky on September 27, 1862.
