Raymond Maakestad to Gloria Ellen Hays

Gloria Ellen Hays, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Hays, Steward, wore a navy blue street length dress for her wedding to Raymond Gene Maakestad son of Mr. & Mrs. M.J. Maakestad of Lee IL. The Steward Methodist Church was the scene of the March 11 double ring ceremony. Rev. D.Gene Harrington officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony amid church decorations of baskets of pink and white snapdragons and carnations. Darlene Jones, soloist and Pauline Jones, Pianist, presented the nuptial music.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a rhinestone necklace, a gift of the groom, with her blue outfit. Her something old was her earrings; something new her shoes; something borrowed a lace hanky from her mothers and something blue her dress. The six-pence in her shoe was from her uncle George Mitchell. Pink rosebuds centered with camelias formed the brides corsage. Marjorie Hare of Steward, close friend of the bride, was her bridesmaid. She wore a grey print dress and pink rose corsage. James Maakestad of Lee was his brothers best man and Eugene Hilleson and Robert Starnes both of Steward, ushered. The brides mother wore a toast print dress with toast accessories and the grooms mother wore an aqua dress with black accessories. Both wore pink carnation corsages.

At the reception in the chuch parlors for 120 guests the serving table was centered with a three tiered wedding cake. The garland of deep pink roses around the base of the cake was arranged by Rev. Harrington. Vada Hays, Doris Hays, Mrs. Anna Ewald, Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs. Mabel Harms and Vivian Ross served. Miss Evice Mitchell, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. George Mitchell, aunt of the bride, poured. Mrs. Vernon Mitchell assisted by Mrs. Lester Mitchell, aunts of the bride, cut the cake and Mrs. Verl Hays, aunt of the bride, had charge of the guest book.

Since March 15, the newlyweds have been at home near Lee. When they left for a brief trip the bride was wearing navy blue with pink accessories. A graduate of the Steward High School the bride is employed in the office of the Whitcomb company, Rochelle. The groom who is a graduate of Waterman High is employed by Great Lakes Pipe Line Company near Lee. Guests from a distance attending were Indianaplis, St. Louis, Gillespie, Irvington and Centralia. Other guests were from DeKalb, Dixon, Rochelle, Ashton, Paw Paw, Steward, Lee, Aurora, Peru, and other nearby towns.
